Answer:
This kind of law already exists in California where I teach.
Let's just put it this way---
First--illegal immigrants are staying put in our country. They are so tied to our economy, we can't simply kick them all out without suffering HUGE economic ramifications. As much as people whine and complain about the huge financial burden illegals take from our system, we need them here doing what they do. That's the bottom line. That being said, I firmly beleive that they need to be documented so we know who is in our country and why they are here. If they want to become citizens, even better.
Second--isn't it better to have a group of people who are living in this country get an education so they can take care of themselves, find decent paying jobs to support their famililes--so they don't have to be on govt. handouts? Educate the children so they don't roll into that system either. Education is one of the keys to getting out of poverty. If we ignore that, then we perpetuate generation after generation of these people to be stuck on govt. welfare and handout programs that are paid by taxpayer money. The US needs to have a very highly educated workforce if we are going to compete in the global economy and remain a force. Otherwise, we will be left in the dust.
It isn't simply a black and white issue. It is very complex.
Makes me sick to my stomach!
I think it is right that it is the largest unfunded mandate ever and if you measure the educational standards in Texas, California and other heavily impacted areas since that time, you will see how our public schools failing can in huge part be traced to that decision. I believe that the Supreme Court needs to take another look at that. I think the policy arguments Brennen made are for the legislature to debate and determine, not the court. In addition, I think any increase in immigration whatsomever should be conditioned on FIRST having the trained teachers and school space to accomodate existing children as well as the incoming children and children who would be born here. They are giving a little money to health care in the Senate Bill, but no one will even look at schools where the greatest damage is done. It is the elephant in the bedroom.
It makes me very angry.
Children born of illegals in the US have no right to any services, period.
If anything, our government has an obligation to those of us who followed the rules. Keep all their families intact as they're all bused back across the borders into their respective homelands.
This must end today. The laws must be drawn in stone. No more support for children of illegals.
My opinion is that Justice William Brennan's majority opinion is correct. Denying education to children will only cause more expensive problems such as crime and poverty.
I think it really stinks we have to pay taxes to educate illegals children. I think they need to start fining Mexico for each illegal that's here for allowing them to cross the border.
Yet more justification that we need to stringently enforce the immigration laws on the books, and end this "anchor baby" crap.
Illegal aliens = criminals. They don't deserve any rights or privilages in this country other than the right to leave.
i dont think we should give ANY services to illegals, period! its why they come, they get a hand out!!
in my collaborative position, i have been in classrooms where i thought i was in mexico. all bulletin boards are in spanish, the text books are in spanish, they speak spanish as the dominate language. it is disgusting and disgraceful. there were two children in the class that were not mexican. a black girl and a middle eastern boy. they spoke fluent spanish because they have been in the school since kindergarten and spanish is not their first language. they were fluent because they live in a predominately mexican town and it is what they teach in the schools.
this only serves to prove my point. if these english speaking children were able to become fluent in 3 years of spanish speaking school, spanish speaking kids can become english speaking in three years! instead, the spanish language is perpetuated in public schools and the chances will be high that THEY WILL STILL BE ILLITERATE IN ENGLISH as they continue through school because they will not be fluent in english! i have to tell you i was appalled. it is a disgrace that our tax money goes to SERVE the foreigners in america, illegal or otherwise.
This is one of the reasons why we are in this mess to begin with..DISGUSTING.
The judges should be put up for treason who voted to let people of OTHER nationalities be entitled to OUR USA services. They are breaking the law...ohh...poor lil illegal aliens. Give me a break! The don't belong here to begin with and most of them don't WANT to be USA citizens!
What is so hard about obeying the laws?
Totally ridiculous. It is called legislating from the bench. Despite what the people want, despite what makes sense, the Liberal Supreme beings have their own agenda which is screw the people.
Behind truly insane public policy mandates in the United States, you often find the U.S. Supreme Court, willfully misinterpreting the Constitution to reach the political result favored by a majority of the justices.
Many of the Supreme Court’s most overreaching decisions have involved the 14th Amendment. For over 30 years, Justice William Brennan–a New Jersey native–was one of the Court’s most inventive and reliably liberal judicial legislators. The “constitutional right” of illegal aliens to public schooling at Americans’ expense is one of the many “implied rights” Brennan discovered, hidden deep between the Constitution’s inky lines.
He manufactured this novel entitlement in his opinion for narrow a 5-4 majority in Plyler v. Doe.Plyler has wreaked havoc on public education (and school finances) ever since.
This is truly one of the most ridiculous cases ever heard. The "Doe" in Plyler vs Doe was used to protect the identities of the illegal aliens. Somehow enforcing the law and deporting the illegal aliens never occurred to the Gods of the Supreme Court. Apparently laws are not made to be enforced they are simply there to be perverted.
This case needs to be reversed because it never really had merit to begin with. The decision made was unconstitutional.

It makes me sick. This quote kills me:
"School is very important for all children, and they should not be discriminated against because they are Mexican or white or black," he said. "They should be equal."
Does Mr. Lopez and everyone else who supports illegals realize that this, for the last time, it is NOT about race? It is the fact of being here undocumented!!!!!!...
If schools knew these children were illegal, they should have rounded the family up and made them go back home. There is nothing wrong with that because you know that's what would have happened in any other country (if other countries did not impose other penalties).
What about some of these colleges offering cheaper tuition now? What about my college tuition? I am a senior and I struggle to make ends meet this last year with no help. The government and state needs to spend money on their own people (those who are here because they are legal)!!!
If this bill passes, Mexico needs to get a bill with the following calculation:
11 million x $10,000.00 = Mexico can't afford...and neither can our taxes that we as taxpayers have being paying.
