How long would a petition take for an american citizen to get his spouse?

Answer:
It usually takes about a year to get a spouse to the United States.
Alternatively, this time decreases to almost half if the spouse is in the United States already.
I would suggest you get in touch with an immigration expert, and ask them about it. They would be able to figure out what works for various cases and could possibly help you speed up by filling correct paperwork, etc.

Congrats.
FAMILY REUNIFICATION
IT CHANGES A LOT BUT IT TOOK ME TEN YEARS TO BECOME A RESIDENT
I think they just changed a bunch of stuff relating to immigration in the US, the amnesty bill failed but some of the others passed.
I don't want to discourage you but all those things take a long time.. sometimes years.. sometimes it just doesn't happen.
.
Realistically, about a year from the time you file the petition until the visa is issued, as long as you do everything right on the first try, the marriage is genuine, and the immigrant spouse has no ineligibilities.
Need more information.
Where are you originally from? your spouse?
if everything is all right, shouldn't be longer than six months. congrats.
If all the paperwork is in order, 9 to 12 months
If the person is outside the USA, it will take around 2 years for the process to be completed, but if the person is in the USA and entered legally the person can become a resident in around 8 months and become a citizen after 3 years becoming a resident.
it took my brother about a year to get his fiance a visa then they were supposed to get married here. another year for her residency. a year seem s to be the average amount of time according to other people i know in this situation
