Do you belive in the american dream?
Answer:
Anything is possible in America. Poor in America is largely one of choice. Too bad so many people choose to be poor.
But you don't have to choose to be poor! Education, jobs, security, health care... It's all here. All you have to do is be willing to work for it.
I think the belief that america is "Clean" from poverty ect, The promise of free health care a helping hand?
Everything is getting so damn complicated here that it's really starting to destroy my will to live here anymore. And if you like something now days, it's probably illegal.
Yes....I have lived around the world and America..even with it faults, is a great place to live...the dream is alive....tarnished at times, buy very alive. I love America...and I am a liberal...go figure.
the american dream is a myth..it used to be very real but the people in other countries still believe in it..they want to come here because of the conditions they face everyday is horrible and intolerable if you dont believe me go stay in a third world country for awhile and you will realize no matter how hard you think you had it you never had it as hard as they do..Its just a dream that is an illusion for the most part but they have been taught that anything is possible here. It may or may not be true anymore but they also face racist and other hardships that they don't or can't understand.. so its a myth basically and well if they only knew maybe they would decide it just isnt worth it
Because America is blessed.America is wonderful. It was founded on good moral Christian principals.Like freedom of religion.Freedom of speech. And all the good things that God is happy with.
because God made this country great by his mercy and not by our will.
if you are standing in the dessert, spirtually speaking, you turn to the right you can get in line for a drink of water, but if you turn to the left all you see is people coming to the right to get a drink of water, if you are thirsty you will get in that line for water.
the same with america. people see america as a place where some people are getting a drink of water and the only water in their country is controlled by the government.
Yes, I believe in the American Dream and I dream about only LEGAL aliens coming to our country the LEGAL way.
Not illegal aliens cutting in line in front of everyone else and spitting in everyones faces as they collect welfare checks and send crime waves across our Great Nation.
you will be rewarded for working hard and working smart. :D I do believe in the American dream.
Yes I do believe in American Dream. I am from the Philippines and I've been dreaming to reach America someday. Job opportunities are very open especially to those in the middle ages. In America there is no age discriminations unlike here in our country. At the same time America is a very large country still uncultivated. Let all Filipinos come to your country and we will help in moving your country on the top in terms of agriculture and technologies. We are fully equipped with these knowledge. And the most important one is that we are a well-balanced people in all asects. We don not get upset when calamities struck us.
well, they say it exists...i think its more like desperation.america encourages reward for less effort, hence perhaps the dream.howeva i think thts killing us the the human species, we are becoming lazy nd go after the easy buck.afterall, the american dream is mostly about making money, not how u make it...becos money in todays world determines a good life and so, perhaps happiness.people dont wanna work hard in their own countries and so run off to the states to make the 'dream'
yes i believe in the american dream as long as they are legal when they come here. no to illegals.
Yes, I believe in the American dream. It keeps being destroyed by plant closings and people loosing secured jobs. No universal health care insurance, many temporary assignments and very few permanent positions. America has less opportunities than in the past, but if you have the right skills it is still the best.
What people are attracted is our freedoms, some countries would not let you criticize their government. We could not be so critical of President Bush and his actions, such as the Iraq War. In time the people will have their voices heard in this tragic and unnecessary war.
Because your government destroyed all the country around so normally many people come to your country they be came homeless.don't be proud of that it's only logical sense
I believe the American Dream is for Americans, and only if all Americans have a real shot at it should we think of bringing in more people other than specific targetted needs like nurses. I think that mass immigration (legal and illegal) of poor people who can't pay their way for education for their children or health services is draining funds that keep the American Dream alive. In Los Angeles, only 19% own their own home, and that is not all property prices, although those too are pushed by mass immigration. People are also spending their savings to send their kids to private school, hoping to deal with college 'somehow' when the time comes. And nevermind retirement!
As we lose our education for our own middle class and poor kids, we lose upwards mobility and the American Dream, as well.

Yolanda, that is sweet. I wish you all the best of luck.
Wages in the United States are relatively high, so almost anyone can live a fairly decent life. Education is almost free (at least through high school), and it is fairly easy to start one's own business.
In many countries, wealth is related to who one knows more than what one knows or does. It is hard for outsiders to break into the system.
Until about the beginning of the 20th century, land was extremely cheap and available to virtually anyone who wanted some. This was a major attraction that set off earlier immigrations. While no longer true, the jobless rate in the US remains much lower than in many other countries, and wages are higher than those in much of the world.
The term "american dream" is just that, a DREAM. It is up to each individual to make their dreams a reality.

I used to live in Guatemala, and you should see people's eyes light up with desire when they ask what kind of wages are paid for laborers in the USA. Many, many people south of the border are earning less than $1 per hour, so even US minimum wage sounds like a great opportunity to them. And if you explain to them that of families below the official poverty level in the US, 90% own TV sets, about half own automobiles, and that nobody's children have to go hungry if their parents are careful to make wise choices about how they spend what resources they are provided with, that only confirms for them that they would be fools not to attempt to enter the USA.
The thing that attracts emmegrants is the whole land of the free and home of the brave thing but they don't realize that it barely exists anymore untill after they get here.

I think at this point the American Dream does not apply to natural-born Americans. My husband is an immigrant and he worked his butt off to get good enough grades to be accepted to a REGULAR university here (he graduated from Purdue). The majority of people from this country take a lot of things for granted and don't appreciate what we have, not because we are all jerks, but because we don't know a different, more unfortunate life. The dream still is out there, just not really present in the hearts of the american people. Our lives (for the most part) have become too easy.
in a way yes. my parents are immigrants so i have to. they worked hard and we enjoy life.
i just dont believe in other people who want to shut down the dream for others to feel safe
Well first of all there wont be an American dream if Bush dosent get some boots on the southern boarder and stop this invasion. If you lived in a card board house and could look across the street and see a 2 story home with a fireplace and swimming pool you would probably find it appetizing too. But the point Im trying to make is the ILLEGALS are making each and every American pay and pay dearly. How the hell are we going to educate all there off spring when they don't want to assimilate? We have to hire special teachers, doctors, nurses, ect that can speak Spanish because they refuse to speak English. They don't have too because there taking over and making us learn Spanish. Appetizing......ahh it makes me sick!!! Wake up America
