Why is such a large percentage of prison inmates hispanic?

Latinos are the fastest growing group behind bars. However Blacks are still the highest group already in.
Actually most inmates are black. All tend to be poor. Look at the Hilton case and the Duke cases as to reasoning why.
Because they are criminals? And most are illegal too by the way.
I don't see figures and valid sources. I always thought it was mostly Blacks and Hispanics in the SW and Whites/Blacks eveywhere else. Have some vialbe date with your question.

what prison are you talking about? theres more then one. depends on the location as to what the majority of ethnicity will be in that prison.

I can only speak from the Australian experience where Australian Aboriginals make up three percent of the population but thirty percent of the prison population.
The simple answer is that they are committing more crimes. But the question behind that is why.
The reason there is that as a race of people, the Aboriginals come from a background of great disadvantage. Even though they might get 'handouts' from the government, chances are before they are ten years old they have been subjected to domestic voilence, substance abuse, sexual abuse etc. What chance in life does an Aboriginal baby have if it has two drugged-up parents who abuse it? Chances are it will grow up to turn to drugs. ..and in turn, crime.
Of course there are also those who have massive unpaid fines - while their white counterparts can pay the fines because they have jobs, the Aboriginals cant so they end up in prison for unpaid fines. Yes they SHOULD just get a job, but a lot of the time whites wont employ them! Sometimes this is fair (they might be a druggie or have no skills) and some times it is simply based on their colour.
Unfortunately there is no 'one size fits all' solution. Throwing money at the community doesn't work - we have tried it and failed.
So there you go. I am sure the situration is similar with hispanics and african-americans in the USA.
The same reason that the largest percentage are black...They are poor...there is a direct corelation between low income and high crime rates..No particular race is born inherently prone to criminal behavior...Now some inbred rebels will disagree, but it's true...Not an excuse...just a reason.
Because of poverty.It has to do with this legal system, many are poor and cannot afford attorney's to get them out of prison.They get court appointed attorney's which are not as good as paid attorney's.The result, they don't bail out, like white counter parts and they don't have paid attorney's like white counter parts..If you had any kind of common sense, you would know a little more than whats in front of your nose.Don't judge people, when you have never been in their shoes, white people don't commit crimes? ha, what a joke, they just get away with it more.
