more than likely one of two things happened. either Reggie's ancestory was slaves in which case his ancestors would have most likely been neighbors with the Bush family plantation. the same bush's who knows. but it was common back then that when slaves took an english last name they actually took the name of the nearest neighbor because they wanted nothing to do with the last name of there owners. the other possibility is that the first person in Reggie Bush's family came over quite some time ago and immediately joined the military. in which case they were given a last name by the military. or if they came over through ellis island, names that were hard to pronounce or spell were often changed on the spot at the whim of the person that handling their immigration.
