Migration to Australia enquiry?

hi there,
We are hoping to apply for skilled visas to migrate to western Australia as nurses. I am particularly keen to hear how others may have coped with doing this from the Uk.
We have found a migration agent tht we will use to help us with the visa etc. What concerns me the most is selling our property. The agent says the process can take 9 - 12 months for us. When should we put our home on the market? my nightmare would be selling our home and then having to sepnd a fortune on rent!

Anyone got any sensible (please) tips?

Answer:
We did the same as you but left the UK for New Zealand. We sold our home and allowed 4 and a half month's from the time we put it on the market. I recommend you sell privately - go online to www.fish4.co.uk and you should see private ads there. Cant remember the company name now unfortunately but we sold it the first day it went on the market. Saved £3,500 in agency bills. We only paid the online private advertiser £100 and saved a fortune. I would allow 4 months at least, try choose a first time buyer with no chain to avoid disappointments with broken chains. Also, once finalised you could request a later move out date/completion date as we did. If you are stuck for a place to stay for a few weeks before you leave, you could have your things sent on ahead (this takes over 8 weeks in total) and stay with friends.
Awww best of luck. My family are in the process of making the 2nd journey over to Australia for permanent.

Unfortunately the 1st visit wasn't quite successful as my mum got really homesick and we had to come home. However with regards to the house, I would wait until your visas have been confirmed and accepted before you put the property on the market.

Also this website http://britishexpats.com/forum/... was really good for my mother...She met other people on there making the journey to australia and also found lots of info regarding when to sell, what to expect etc etc.

If you want any more info please let me know! And best wishes and good luck for the move!
l would advise putting it on the market appx 3 months before your hoping to leave - most viewings happen within the first month and if you get a buyer, it will take appx 6-8 weeks to complete. Maybe do it 4mths behind and worse case scenario is that you maybe have to rent or move in with a family member for appx a month! Good luck
Do you need money from the sale of the house to make the move? . if not, find out the cost of rent in West Aust versus rent where your house is ... You could be getting a handy little income during your first weeks in Australia (from your rental in UK) and no need to pay rent before leaving.
