Can the US afford to take in every immigrant in the world , just to give them a better life?
If you have a 4 bedroom home and you take in 40 people , is everyone comfortable and better off ?
At the rate we are taking in immigrants now , by the year 2050 there will be over 400 million people in the US . How many roads , schools and hospitals will have to be built . How much farmland will be leftto farm and what about the drain on water , elecricty , sewer , landfill and National Parks .
Look at the long term effects .
Look at India and China now , are we next ?

Well, let's do the math. Right now, there are roughly 300 million people in the US, out of roughly 7 billion worldwide. That means we're currently under 5% of the total population. Even taking another 5% of the world population would double our population.
Now, we currently are capable of producing much more food than we use ourselves. So, if we use that capacity for in-country use rather than selling it overseas, we could handle up to that many. And huge stretches of the US are largely empty, so space is not really a problem (though, that would impact the environment significantly).
So, can we handle doubling our population? Barely. Should we? Why bother -- it's far easier to provide the technology and help other countries to develop the resources locally, rather than moving the people and providing them here.

See what is going on in Latin America and the President of the USA in his visit, this countries and people don't want us. They hate us but they want to send their poor to the USA and we the Americans take care of them. But in their countries they don't want nothing to do with Americans.
When you compare our wealth to those in africa, and many other countries, you'd have to admit we could spare a bit. Not to say I want everyone over here, but share it, so they have a reason to stay home.
Try to dig online for some of the stats about what the top 1%, 5%, 10% wealthiest possess vs. the bottom blocks. Pretty scary. They say the top handful of billionaires have more money than so many of the poorest countries combined. This is like, under 200 individuals!!

First off, many immigrants who come to the US don't even stay here, as it is a complex process to seek asylum here, so many immigrants are just on their way to Canada. Secondly, the Mexicans are the ones working the farm jobs. Lazy Americans complain there are no jobs? There are plenty of jobs, the Mexicans are working some of them because many Americans don't want to clean a bathroom at McDonalds, or clean people's hotel rooms, but many people from other countries are willing to work hard at bad jobs to better their status. It is highly unlikely that we will "be next", as we can also create a quota that prevents immigrants (legal ones at least) from entering the country. So we will be fine.
Absolutely, we need to solve our problems with immigration. There are always problems when you have large amounts at once. But, I know that being overzealous creates a different problem that can be just as big. The minutemen, who I believe are mostly honorable, accepted help from white supremacist groups to sign people up! All of our problems in the US do not stem from illegal or legal immigration. It's nice to believe most of our problems will go away if there were no immigrants but that simply isn't true. Fruit growers and farmers are having problems getting their crops picked and fields howed. We're not China, we're not Communist, and your numbers are overblown. Of course we can't. We already have unfair competition and have lost quality of life of our poorest citizens that we used to be able to brag about. Now our poor are not rich by comparison. They live like people in 3rd world countries. And this will only continue to move up the economic ladder. We can't solve the world's problems. We need to take care of our own.

Nah some natural disaster will wipe out the nation before that occurs. It is some sort of natural system that controls overpopulation. Look at the Tsunami of 2004 or the Earthquakes in the Middle East. Don't forget about Katrina either.
Wow these answers as well as the question really make me move my head side to side. What are caucasians afraid of? That the won't have enough power? I don't think it matters if they are caucasians, asians, hispanic or whatever, if they have reached their way to presidency, they deserve it. Also, don't you think that there are many people leaving this country too? Some just come to work and go back. The U.S. doesn't take that many immigrants a year and during that time and even if it did, if people see and notice the effect on the U.S., many will go back to their countries or other countries. Nobody would really live in a 4 bedroom home with 39 other people. It would be impossible for the U.S. to take every immigrant in the world, and if it does, by that time, there will be another country that could be named number one. Many people would move to that country too. Not everybody wants to come here, many people are very happy living in their countries, as well as many Americans move out of the U.S. into other countries. Well that's my opinion.

Certainly you would not put 40 people in a 4 bedroom home. But what if, instead, 36 people BUILT more homes? In about 5 years you'd have 20 more homes and you'd need to find more PEOPLE to put in them!
And that's what I think people at MyTend are getting wrong every single day. You can't paint immigrants with a broad brush. For those that steal identities, live off welfare, deal drugs, and drive drunk and kill people I completely agree. You get a one way ticket back to where you came from (Unless you fly a plane into the World trade Center I guess.......)
But If you WANT to be here, WANT to learn English, want to Assimilate, and want to babysit or wash dishes or clean houses or garden or pick crops you are giving this Country more than you are taking! Note that I have refrained from use of the word "illegal". Sorry not to like everyone's favorite argument, but all "legal" means is that you have won a lottery (or again, flied a plane into the WTC). They call the U.S. the "melting pot" of the world, because of all the foreigners we let come into this country. Well, OUR "melting pot" is about to BOIL OVER already!!!

We can NOT take in everybody in the world that wants to come here!!! ESPECIALLY those who are UNSKILLED and UNEDUCATED, and actually take MORE from society, than anything they will EVER contribute!!!
Immigrants help this economy out. People are being ignorant and not seeing the positive, sure, there are negative things, but honestly, what would you do without them? Are YOU going to work in the field for less than minimum wage? I dont think so. So please, dont think about yourself, think about everybody. One last thing before I go, who do you think is building all these roads, schools, and hospitals? Not you. So stop complaining.
I suggest we secure the borders, deny housing, jobs, and any other benefits to illegal aliens that is allowed to legal residents of the U.S., deport the illegal aliens that still remain, and then see where we stand.

We have to let them in. I'm a businessman and I need cheap labor. Once more, a few illegals in my workforce scare all the other workers into taking less pay and benefits. They know that if they don't I will fire them and use illegals in their place. This makes my labor costs much lower and I pocket all that money. I contribute to politicians so they will continue allowing illegals easy access to the workplace. I tell the politicians to speak against illegals but don't pass any laws that might hinder me from hiring them. Yeh, they have lots of babies who are U.S. citizens, but most will be under educated and will make good cheap workers someday. I need more profits and will do whatever it takes to get richer.
No they can't. We do need to stop illegal immigration but we need to be compassionate with regards to those who have lived here for years and been good citizens. There should be a path to citizenship.
I am worried about immigrants in total. We don't have enough resource to sustain ourselves. Maintaining our lifestyle and adding more is environmentally disasterous. I'm worried when CHina and India pollutes as much as Americans per capita. We have more than enough food though. Land wise we could stack them on Large apartment complexes. Hospitals, not a problem if they pay their share of the medical bills. Schools, they have to learn English and if they can't keep up, we shouldn't punish those who want to excel. We are strained already in water and energy. There is no easily solution. We could try going for creating a better world,but that means to decrease the life style of most American.
