American pensionar moving to Germany?
I would like to know if there is a limit on how much money she must have, in order to get a permanent residency?
She recieves her pension from America.
What else is needed for her to do this step?
Answer:
There are more questions that need to be asked, such as:
Where will she live? Rent, purchase, etc. Neither one is cheap. If she decides to purchase, she will have to get a loan from a German bank.
Where will she receive her pension? If she leaves it in an American bank, she can still access it, but then she will have to convert the money to Euros in order to pay her bills.
Has she applied for a Permanent residency? This is necessary. She will only be allowed to stay in Germany for 3 months on a tourist visa. She can apply wants she arrives, but it will take awhile to get it back. She needs to contact the German consulate/embassy to get further information on this.
Does she speak German? If not, who will translate for her? While it's true that individuals speak english, the government offices send letters that are only written in German. She will either have to pay to have them translated, or rely on someone to translate for her if she is not fluent.
Contact the German Embassy.
She should contact the German embassy. My husband and I are planning on retiring in Hungary. It is still a few years off but we have already purchased an apt. in Budapest. My husband was born in Hungary so he is still consitered a citizen of Hungary. It makes things easier for us.I just have to go fill out some forms when I am ready to stay here permenatly. They should have a social security office in Germany in the US embassy there.
