How difficult would it be for an American to move to Ireland?
And would I have to be wealthy to be able to afford the move?
Answer:
You'd have to be sponsored by your job to come over and work there. Otherwise your limited to 3 months stay. The chief of police can waiver that a bit if you can show him what he wants to see in the bank. Or you'd have to invest 1 million dollars into a business there other than real-estate and hire 2 nationals minimum.
Any pets of course would have to be certified and stay six months at an approved pound.
This is something that is best researched by taking a trip to see if you really want to do it.
The first thing you need to find out is about labor laws and job market in your field. Most countries require you to be a citizen in order to be able to work.
Given that it is an island country, most commodities are going to be more expensive because of import cost. However, this could be offset by things like rent/mortgage cost, taxation, and transportation.
You need to go check it out on the ground.
Difficulty really depends on what sort of degree or career you have. It's a bit harder for an American to move there as we are a visa waivered country so not as many worker programs are open to us. I found cost of living to be maybe a wee bit more but over all pretty similar to here.
I would say if you have a job lined up there, documents in order etc. $5000-$6000 would be a good amount to get set up on, more if you're able.
Lal I gather you never been out of the States. UK Pound? Sorry Irish here we have the Euro here. You must be getting mix up here. The UK is the only EU country that doesn't have the Euro as it currency. The euro has risen steadily against the dollar since the start of the year following concern about prospects for growth of the US economy, corporate profits
Ireland is a very expensive country to live in, next after Denmark. There are plenty of Americans living here. A four bedroom house in Dublin would set you back at €650.000 convert to USD dollars that be $ 788.53
