Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Answer:
1907 or 2007 it should still be the same. I am not against immigrations, my husband is an immigrant, but we did it legally. If someone wants to immigrate here they need to do it legally, show respect for our country and laws, they must learn our language (English) and be productive members of society. They say they want a means to become citizens...there is a process in place, it is by following the laws already in place and doing the paperwork to immigrate legally.
Makes good since to me.
I could add more but i will refrain from that.
I've read this before, but it still makes sense to me.
Theodore Roosevelt, In my opinion the best president we have ever had.
real u.s. americans have a full body tattoo of the u.s.a flag, all others are being sold back to the native americans they were freed from
Teddy for President in 2008!
(Even given the shape he's in now, he's a better bet than any of the frontrunners.)
I agree (how can you disagree with Teddy Roosevelt?) Star coming at ya!
The current ILLEGALS don't come here in "good faith." They come here because of all the things they get (e.g., free schools, free health care, no taxes to pay, etc...) If they came here LEGALLY, that's a whole different thing - that's coming here in "good faith."
I hate seeing the Mexican flag flying without the US flag. That openly shows were their loyalties are! I commonly see a large Mexican flag flying OVER a little American flag. Mexican flags painted on the hood of a car, with Baja California plates. Kids at High School graduation, proudly having the Mexican flag on their caps. Homecoming float for La Raza.
Sure, be proud of your heritage but should your loyalties!
