very good question!!! i had served on juries 2 times, one civil, the other criminal...and every-time...the selection of potential jurors was so difficult...in Miami....80% ( pretend "not" to speak English...and 60 % had a criminal background...

If you cannot understand what is happening in the court room then how can you make a good solid decision on a persons guilt or innocence. I agree, English should be the official language. We will save billions of trees alone in only printing forms in English. I can't believe the tree huggers haven't been more behind this.

Its the officially recognized language in the US.
In Canada, either French or English is recognized. In court proceedings, the accused selects their language of choice and it is ensured that all involved are fluent in the language.
Would you want someone who doesn't speak English to judge you if they didn't understand the testimony, etc?
Although it should be,English is not the official language of the USA .We don't have an official language.I guess we never felt the need before.About 28 or 29 of the states have made English their official state language. 85% of America speak English.And you have a good point there about the courts.
Because like it or not......English is and has been and will be the language of this country. Main language. No one is forbidden to speak another language but English is required, it is the "official" language of more than 1/2 the states. It's a requirement for citizenship. It's the devil in the details that a certain group is trying to push their language down everyones throat so they won't have to do 1 basic thing to get along here. Learn English. One more thing to push their agenda. One more thing to cause discontent and seperation.

I'm all for knowing another language. My mom is from Germany and we speak German to each other a lot. But she knew English when she came to this country.

If I ever have to stand trial for anything, I hope all the people in the jury can understand the evidence. I would want a fair trial. Pro-illegals will tell you they should provide interpreters, no doubt.
Simply because it is the language of the land (US). This should apply to any country, if one sitting on the jury they should be able to understand the language of the country where they are serving the service.
If one doesn't know the language then they wont be able to understand the culture, peoples mentality, the norms of the place.......... so the verdict will be speak the language of the country.
