What provisions of this bill could we have agreed on?
I hate hearing how we need a "comprehensive" plan. Lets do the things that work, one at a time if needed.
Answer:
We DON'T need section 213 calling for a 'sense of Congress' to 'accelerate the SPP' and we DON'T need the 10 year statute of limitations it tried to put in to have a permanent rolling amnesty going forward for all who come and stay 10 years.
The press clearly never read the bill or SOMEONE would have brought that up. And yet they were portraying US as racist ignnoramusses who knew nothing but what we heard on talk radio. (Not to say talk radio sounding an alarm is a bad thing at ALL, but talk about the pot calling the kettle black with that 'have you read the bill' crap!)
I don't want these people writing the boilerplate. They sneak things in.
I agree one hundred percent dont try to slam an arsenic tablet down our throat in the middle of a nice ripe piece of fruit,lets take our time and do this thing right.
That is exactly what the American Public has been trying to get through the idiot politicians head. This bill was nothing but a paper tiger designed to give amnesty to 13 million illegals and not do one damn thing to ensure security at the border. They proved this when it was brought out they didn't know where they would get the funding to secure the borders. Congress should be ashamed and very very afraid.

ENFORCE THE CURRENT LAWS
First and foremost is the border fence, which has already been approved it's just not being built. The universal ID card is a great idea. We also need a unified database to check legal residency status, preferably linked to the id so it can be quickly scanned and employers can know a potential employees work status instantly. Then you prosecute those who violate the law with real jail time. On the other side of the issue, our immigration system is a ridiculous maze of red tape and beuracracy and desperately needs to be simplified and sped up. If you make legal immigration less painful, then more people will use that avenue. At the same time, you make illegal immigration a path that is more painful and not rewarding, less people will do it. All of these proposals should be addressed as separate issues. Each of them will help and there are other things that can be done. The biggest thing that would help congress get things done is to limit them to single issue legislation. Just vote on one thing at a time and you will get more done.
