It's a two prong solution. Prong One - Secure the border. Prong Two - Inspire Mexicans to dream the Mexican dream.
The fense will not be ready until 2013 according to INS. If we get a pro American president in 2009, we will build it sooner.

I'm glad you are proud to be latino...everyone should be proud to be what they are. We are now going to push for stricter border patrol and other means. We do not expect it to solve all the problems, but it will surely improve things from how they have been.
One time, I threw a Frisbee into a yard. There was a wood fence between me and the Frisbee. If it wasn't for that fence, I would have just gone over and got it. But instead, I decided that small extra work wasn't worth it. That is the idea of the border fence. Of course, that means a lot of Americans will have to accept losing their Frisbees to Mexico.
No it is not working as it has not been built yet. But it will work once it is completed. It is OK that the Mexicans will still want to come here, they will just have to do it the legal way.
First of all, thanks for coming here and doing it legally. That is the real issue, its not a question of whether or not we want immigrants to come in from Mexico, it is the legality of their entrance that worries me. I don't think a fence or a wall will work, and I wish that someone could come up with a plan that will seal the border without some stupid wall. It would be nice if Mexicans would respect the laws of this country, and come here legally, but apparently we cannot depend on them for that kind of thing, so it is necessary to seal the border.
A brick wall is a start, then you go after the people that employ them, then watch them run back to mexico.
If a mexican wants to be free let the start by changing their Government.
The fence doesn't do much. First of all, there is not a fence everywhere, only roughly half of the border has any fence. It is not difficult to scale, especially by those who are determined to do so.
A lot of people dream to be free in the USA.
Most don't break the laws of the USA to get here.

Most of the fence is almost non-existent rusty barb wire. In San Diego, they built a real fence and it helped dramatically. The drug smugglers had to resort to digging tunnels.
Now that the bill is dead it will be up to the people to choose leaders who will act in the next sessions.
It is easy to remove illegals without a fence, I have outlined my plan many times here. We cannot afford to try and find them all but we can starve them.
We do it by passing strict laws that anyone hiring them goes to prison. No fines, no diversions, no parole or early release possible. Mandatory five years in prison for the first offense and five more for each illegal hired. No exceptions. The CEO of the company goes as well as every single person employed in their HR department. The lady down the street who gets her lawn mowed for $2 goes too. We PAY A BOUNTY for turning them in of maybe $500 for each conviction.
Next we include school and hospital administrators in the deal. If they allow an illegal in their school or hospital or clinic they go to prison. Same for banks, daycare, and especially landlords.
As soon as a couple of dozen bigshots with money are in prison the rest of them will be very careful to fire and not re-hire illegals.
Next we put up a toll gate at the Mexican border and charge every illegal $1000 to LEAVE the USA.

But you're partly right. A fence is just one tool in an arsenal. We need to remove incentives for illegal immigration. No work and it's adios muchachos.
