When did imigration become a problem in the U.S?

Just wondering when so I could find out how it become an even bigger problem in the 21st century.

Answer:
do you mean Illegal immigration? Legal immigration has never been a problem. But illegal immigration began being problematic in the 1950's. Eisenhower actually cleaned out about 95% in a little over a month. This lasted 10 years. One of his biggest road blocks were democrats (nothing changes) and LBJ was the biggest of those road blocks. The illegals were allowed to start pouring back over in 1964 when LBJ took the reins in washington.
the 1400"s
When Lou Dobbs said it was.
When we changed our policy to give preference to those without skills and those who do not want to be Americans but instead want to make America just like where they are from.
1776
When the white man showed up and started assigning reservations for the natives.
Its been a problem from the very beginning. Its our greatest source of pride that we're a melting pot, that all these different peoples can come together and its our greatest shame, that we have such a hard time with it.
There is no problem with immigration only illegal immigration.
Cumulative numbers and rate of inflow has swamped services like schools and hospitals, and has created gridlock and water worries and overpopulation issues.
When the laws for illegal immigration were quit being enforced which was about 1986.
The first major problem was the invasion of Europeans and persecution of the Native Americans. It was a horrible tragedy if you think about it--generations of traditions and culture sideswiped by foreigners who wanted to come in and change everything is done to suit their own needs and wants.
When Americanos realized many races, including Latinos would soon take over...soon...
It became a problem when the US goverment decided not to enforce the immigration laws.

With the illegals draining our social programs we won't be able to sustain American life as we know it. We'll have less resources for defense and in time the Islamic fanatics will be bombing our schools and malls.
Well, leaving early American history out of the picture (Indians, Spanish invaders - like that), the "illegal immigration" issue has been around for about 60 years. About every 20 years or so, a big stink gets raised about it, just like now. And, everytime, nothing is done except amnesty.

The government knows that business, agribusiness, farmers and other depend upon the cheap labor force from south of the border and have been "winking" at it since the "Dust Bowl" era in the 1930's. Understand this, the government WILL NOT stop the flow, nor will they enforce the laws already on the books. It is FEDERAL law that no one is permitted to hire illegal or undocumented workers. There are stiff fines and prison time involved in the enforcement and those who break the law.

It has never been enforced - and never will be. Government will NOT interfere with corporate profits.
I believe immigration became a 'problem' when the govt.(specifically the 'administration') neglected to remember lady liberty and the torch she holds which lights the way to those traveling to America and her words long forgotten and the true meaning long lost forever:(
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
My answer would be 2001 when the administration, namey GW, took over this countrys' leadership and wanted to have a violent take-over and scare the hell out of anyone who was thinking of coming to improve thier lives and people started to jump over the friggin wall and put thier lives in danger.or go back farther, if you choose, to 1982 when Castro permitted thousands to leave, where were they to go? lol Miami of course... In fact, lets all just blame Castro!!hell...why not?LOL
"say hello to my lil friend"
Immigration became a problem when the sister republic of Mexico went a different direction than the United States.

Immigration became a problem long ago when Mexicans didn't recieve the same constitutional rights that their neighbors to the north recieved.

Immigration became a problem long ago when Mexicans didn't receive the same economic opportunities their neighbors to the north recieved.

Immigration became a problem when the Mexican government defaulted on the promise and responsibility it should have upheld for its own citizens.

Immigration became a problem when U.S. citizens decided not to have a sufficient number of children to provide an adequate labor force for an expanding economy.

Immigration became a problem when millions of babies were aborted in the U.S. even though there were plenty of couples willing to adopt them.

Immigration became a problem when an extreme economic differential grew between the U.S. and an adjoining neighbor.

Immigration became a problem when the border between the U.S. and its much poorer neighbor remained unsecured and unprotected.

Immigration became a problem when Mexico became an incubator of economic misery and economic frustration.

There are many other countries even poorer than Mexico, but they don't happen to be located to our immediate south.

Because of this, they don't pose the same magnitude of a problem to us as Mexico presently does.

John F. Kennedy had a vision for this entire hemisphere.

It was called "The Alliance For Progress" and I am saddened by the fact that it didn't recieve any further attention after his death.

To think of the problem of excessive or out-of-control immigration in isolation to everything else, is to be focused on the symptoms of an illness withouting giving any thought to or effort in finding the root-cause of that illness.

Immigration is the life blood of the U.S., but the rate of immigration and the DIVERSITY of immigration is something that is the exclusive prerogative of a sovereign republic to determine.

The Mexican people cannot look upon themselves as more entitled in any way, to recieve the lion's share of access to our country.

The Mexican people have every responsibility to hold their own government accountable for working on their behalf to realize the same economic opportunity and standard of living enjoyed by the citizens of all of the developed countries.
seems to me that it has always been a problem, just read the posts or turn on cnn anyday and you will see that "america" has a problem tolerating anyone or anything different. before it was blacks, irish, japanese, etc. such a tragedy and mindless waste of anger torwards difference in any form, i mean you ask many americans about immigration issues and immediately you get a hate filled tirade centering on "send the mexicans packing!" you dont hear in their arguments about any other people that are here illegaly for whatever reason, lucky for those people that america is ignoring them right now. if you then question immigration of the europeans to the then indian inhabited americas you get a different argument all together.most americans dont talk about how the european settlers came and violently took the land from the indians and moved the surviving indians to reservations against wills and then went further to work the land with indentured servants and slaves. so whats the difference, back then you had a group of people that were impoverished and persecuted and looking for a better life for their children, fast forward to now and you also have people impoverished and searching for a better life. it should be a crime against humanity to restrict free movement of any people to any place.
but to answer your question, i read an article recently that projected a census in the year 2110(the exact year may be off some) and it stated mexicans would be the majority, followed i believe by mixed races, then blacks, and whites would be the new minority. i think this realization is the BIG worry. think about it, majority ussually rules right. culture as you know it today would be so influenced by majority cultures that it would most likely not resemble what most are used to today, and americans dont tolerate change or change in leadership. its all about fear.
since Americans were being brainwashed that "Mexican are invading our country" that is crap. they come here to work not kill or rape anyone. I think most people are too into this issue and have no lives.
