You call him your "boyfriend" but you as a citizen are not allowed to fill out I-130s for your "boyfriends", but only for your spouse. Let's hope that you didn't misfile this I-130 and throw away your money.
Put more information on the basis for the filing of this I-130 (who filed it for him) and then you will get higher quality answers.

Is your boyfriend's I-130 being processed through a family member....because if you are helping him I need to echo the previous answer he has to be your husband.
However usually if the person is in the US while their documents are being processed they don't have to leave. However I recommend you check with the USCIS.
