Which is/was harder, in your opinion??
Answer:
Ellis Island years ago was more difficult. In those days, there were no social support systems: no welfare, no social security, no unemployment insurance, no medicaid to provide healthcare to the indigent, no nothing but private and religious charity. Immigrants were on their own and had to fend for themselves -- sink or swim. It's a tribute to their self-reliance that so few of them sank.
i would think the paper work is worse it really sucks
I think the paper work is harder...im sure its hard to read as well depending on where u come from
This is a hard and thought provoking question. I have read
some about the immigrants that came to America so long
ago. Some of them came steerage and some died on the
way, some were very ill when they arrived and had fears that
they would be turned away because of illness. Paper work and waiting are hard, but I think it is easier than the way it used to be.
Back in the days Ellis island was far worse. Delousing in the 1800's alone was worse. Angel Island was even worse. People would stay in prison like conditions for months waiting to get into the US.
Edit: I think some people here needs to watch the history channel to find out how hard Ellis island really was. It's not like they took a cruise and then they got off the boat.
Back then. All that time on ships in steerage. They had terrible hardships in their home counties. They came here with nothing but the clothes on their backs.
