Should pressure from the Mexican government be a factor?
laws demands we loosen our for their benefit? @ US taxpayers expense? They help keep drugs smugglers out? Hmm...wouldn't a highly-secured border do better?
Washington's failure to change its immigration laws is a blow to pro-U.S. Mexican President Felipe Calderon as he faces his toughest challenges since taking office in December.
Calderon, praised in Mexico for berating Bush over immigration at talks in March, said on Friday: "It should be deplored how the discussions in the U.S. Senate have not been able to follow a swift course and quickly win approval of this issue."

Answer:
Pressure from other governments should not matter This is the united states of america. not the united states of mexico. Who cares about what pressure comes from another country. All he is trying to do is get all of the poor, criminals, and dead beasts out of his country and into ours to take advantage of our system. Why don't we put pressure on him to create better jobs, have a better government, and make mexico a place the 12 million or so people would want to live rather than coming here... But overall, it is not our responsibility as the usa to take care of other countries problems
Look at the EU. The current way we are redefining gov't means that we do interact with other nation-states in such a manner.
Yes it should be a Factor, Its should encourage us to seal the
Border. They are not our Friends.
The Mexican government is a big part of the problem. They encourage their citizens to enter the US illegally. They actually publish and distribute comic books that tell illegals how to get in, where to hide and how to blend in and not get caught and deported. When a foreign government shows utter contempt for another nations laws and sovereinty, then why should the citizens of that country. We should stop all aid to Mexico right now and secure the borders.
Pressure ON the Mexican government would be a factor. LOTS and LOTS of pressure!!
No. Mexico depends on us for so many things, I don't think us closing the border, regardless of their opinion, is going to make them boycott us.
I'm against this whole "one-world-government" thing of countries giving into the demands from immigrants of another. Every country has its unique culture, unique way of life - and I'll be damned if they ever merger with another in the future.
No and their influence should be ignored. Their own Constitution absolutely Prohibits it as they attempt to buy our elected officials. The United States Constituion and Bill of Rights is for Americans and those who entered Legally! We are not their suburb to be micro-managed.
I do feel like the Mexican government should be confronted about their people. How is it that people who love their country and culture so much, run away from it.
He can deplore it all he likes. His country stands to gain from it. At our expense. And by his own statement he has cousins here, and wouldn't say if they are illegally here, or not.
No, it should not be a factor.
Rachel, no one except Bush has agreed to become any kind of 'member state' in anything whatsomever with Mexico. The SPP is an unconstitutional treaty based idea, and one of the big problems with the Senate bill is page 210 where there is recited a 'sense of Congress' to 'accelerate SPP' an idea they were entirely and unconstitutionally excluded from at inception.
Ditto Cyclops and Booman!!
The fact that La Raza was involved in the writing of the bill says VOLUMES about the intent of Mexico's government!
They may be sneaking across the border in small groups, but this constitutes an INVASION people! We need to seal the border now, offer "right to apply for re-entry" priviledges to those who leave willingly, and then start deporting. And if we have to catch and deport them, they don't get to come back!
What we should do is ask the government of Mexico iif they need an Arc Light to see to get their heads out of their hind ends and stay out of American Policy.
Gee if the Mexican government is helping stem the flow of drugs across the border, I would hate to see what would have if they were not helping. Did you notice they did not speak to the issue of stemming the flow of illegals. The Mexican government and the USA governments are in bed together to
make sure that we have a steady flow of illegals and then pass the bill on to us the tax payer
The Mexican government is the biggest problem we have so many illegal here. They don't want their own people. They turn the back on them. They keep them poor, so they encourage them to leave so the illegal make milk the US citizen dry than send money back to Mexico. Mexican government benefit from all of this.
The US does not belong to US Incorporated, we don't have no obligation to Mexico. It is time for our government to call on them for their miserable treatment of their people and their deplorable condition for the Mexican people, and especially it is THEIRS and NOT OURS responsibility to FEED and SUPPORT their PEOPLE.
