How to change where you live?

If somebody wanted to move from one country to another, what exactly has to be done. Obviously a passport is required, a flight needs to be caught. But I was wondering about visas or change of citizenship etc. If you were intending to spend the rest of your life in the country being moved to, you wouldn't want to have to keep getting yearly visas or whatever. So what is the proper way of doing this?

Huge question.

Every country has different requirements. Most require you to, first, apply for permanent residency. You can do that by visiting the embassy or consulate of the country you're planning to move to in YOUR current country.

Then you have to pay the fees and wait for the application to be processed. It's usually best to wait for your reply before moving since refusal means you'll have to go back where you came from.

If you don't do this, you can't live or work in the country you want to go to legally. You become a burden of the state and an illegal immigrant.

For more information, visit the Immigration websites of the country you live in and the country you plan to move to.

Good luck!
Emigrating from one country to another one would really depend on which you are going from and to which you are going to. There are different numbers of people that can be accepted from different countries. Sometimes the waiting list does not exist and sometimes a waiting list will be 10 years or longer. Depending if you have a police record and what the records if for, it may not even be available at all.

That is my answer from Washington, D.C., USA.
