Maybe not Mexico, but to be safe, call Mexican Customs, Immigration or Food Inspection and ask them.

My husband went to Copper Canyon, Mexico about 5 years ago. He and a few buddies went riding (dual sport dirt bikes)through the country side for a week. He had a blast. the people down there were warm and friendly.
He had to take his passport & he had to get extra insurance on our truck and bikes, call your insurance company and see what you need. They can help.
i guess it depends on if you are going with a company, and if you mean like an ATV or a SUV. your best bet is to contact the aduana.
