I think you can John. The question was in fact not 100% about "rising above racism"; it was aimed at promoting the half wit postulate of unlimited ethnically different immigration.
This postulate goes something like this: The British should accept many millions even going into 10s of millions of ethnically different immigrants thereby completely changing the nature of the UK. Any ethnic Brit who disagrees should be ashamed and is a racist, so here they come in millions and no regulation to prevent it going into 10s of millions.
I think if we realize that we are all more alike than we are different, and keep that in mind, then we can finally rise above the intolerance,
respect is a two way street.

Just seeing all of the illegals out there protesting just confirms my disgust with how they are taking away services from the middle and lower income citizens of this country.

I'm white, British. I live in Spain and have been here about 18 months. My kids have experienced racism, They made an effort to fit in and wanted to do things the Spanish way. It took a long time and sadly eventually they had to result to a physical resolve.
Once they had done this they were accepted. Racism is very territorial, if we look to the animal kingdom a pack of wolves cannot just walk in and join another pack, first they will fight and either become friends or part. I AM NOT SAYING THE ANSWER IS CONFRONTATION. We are humans, we have an animal instinct for survival but our advantage is we have logic and reason not only instinct.

I respect Spanish ways, there are aspects of Spanish life that I abhor, were I in England I would protest bullfighting, in Spain its not my place to criticise my adopted country and try to change its traditions.
Change starts with you and me. If we see the good in people first instead of the bad we think is there it may help.

i don't think that limiting immigration is racist at all, merely controlling the amount of freeloaders who come and take the piss.
the only thing that i can say about respect and tolerance is maybe all those immigrants out there who are using our benefits, banning christmas in schools and other things to change the culture and heretige of this country should adapt to OUR ways and OUR practices just as we would be expected to if we went to their country. If you don't like our rules and you don't want to conform to British society, don't come here!
