I am an american citizen who finished my final 2 years of high school here in the dominican republic. I am planning to go back to new york to pursue a career in health care, my question is what do i need to take from here, my high school diploma, a transcript etc.. and what i have to do to them, legalize them, translate them etc...

Transcripts are not something that most colleges will accept from YOU, even should you get certified copies. Go ahead and GET a copy and have them certified or stamped official. Offer them to the college as a way to expedite things, but for the most part, they will want to get them direct. (If you are going to apply to several colleges, be sure to offer them COPIES and keep any originals in your possession.)
So, be sure to get the addresses of your high school and the name of the person to whom they can direct a request to GET the transcripts directly.
Yes to transcripts and diploma, and a letter of recommendation from a teacher. However, I would look at the specific schools you want to attend - they should have web sites where you can click on 'admissions' to find what they want. Coming from a foreign school you may possibly need something else, but they should be able to tell you.
