You are comparing apples and oranges. One crime is not the same as another. You might as well say that the death penalty should be a possible penalty for a traffic violation and murderers should get off with a fine.
I don't even know what the classification the crime of illegally entering the US falls under? Its certainly not a felony. A misdemeanor maybe? Maybe something in between..
And maybe people who do make "one mistake" deserve a second chance. But then again, it depends on the crime.
Although I bet you have an easier time petitioning congress to help a large poor minority of hard-working people than to give amnesty to first time bank robbers.
