Have you see this one?

Alvin York, Medal of Honor. For taking 132 German prisoners, killing 25 enemy troops.

Guy Gabaldon, Captured 1,500 Japanese soldiers and civillians in Saipan, at the age of 18, A movie was made of his life, called "From Hell To Eternity" but the movie changed Gabaldon from a short Mexican American from East LA to a tall blonde blue-eyed Jeffery Hunter.
I am not trying to decredit the war Hero, Alvin York ,I am doing a comparison of their deeds.
When you check the facts of Japanese surrenders in the following battles,
Guadalcanal 2 garrisons fought to extinction, reinforced 800 fought to the death,15 surrendered
Attu -2350 , 29 surrendered
Tarawa -2600, 8 surrendered
Makin Island- 300, 1 surrendered
Marshall Isands_ 8500, 130 surrendered
Iwo Jima, Pelileu , Okinawa had a surrender rate of 3%

Thats what made Guy Gabaldon actions such an outstanding Heroic act of the war!
Did he get a Medal of Honor, ? NO!!
Bigotry! that is the simple fact..!

Answer:
As I understand it Congressional action on this is pending. It is difficult to document the events of the 1940's at this late date. I am not at all saying that he doesn't deserve it - but lots of folks in WWII were nominated for CMOH awards and didn't receive them. To say that it was because he was Hispanic is gross speculation. Please don't smear this heroic American's actions by including racial considerations where none exist.

Personally I would hope, based upon what I have read about him, that he receive this MOH award - he seems to be deserving of it.
oh my god
i can not believe it
First off, he is either a Mexican or he is AMERICAN...he can't be both. Saying he is sounds exactly like the NAU talk.

Secondly, if you have a problem with it, talk with Congress and let them know. Bringing it up here won't do any good, and YES, they have given medals after the person dies.
Alright now, so this superman didn't get his Medal of Honor at that time. I'm not saying that it wasn't due him, but at that time, they must have had a reason for not doing it. I know there were other men and many women in the military who should have received honors as well...but, it just wasn't done at that time for whatever the reason.I just don't know the answer to that.

However, if you feel that strongly about it; why don't you make it your special project to see that this wrong is righted and that he receives his Medal of Honor? I've heard of many men and women who were finally honored for their heroic services. I'd start with the Veterans Administration and go from there. Better late than never...
Yes Texas ,I have seen it before and I could not agree with you more.Guy also killed 33 Japanese soldiers, before he capture two and convinced one to back in the cave and talk to the others.
Guy save the lives of many American fighting men, if those Japanese would have done like the others and fought to the death, What was the "Pied Piper of Saipan" golden touch to making Japanese surrender. He spoke Japanese and by talking to them he convinced them to surrender.
The Japanese family he was living with were sent to interment camps.

Fed up ..He is a Mexican American Like me, You may not honor your hertiage and your parents but we do.I know who I am proud of my hertiage.
If it is all true, then yes he does deserve to be honored for serving his country. I know that there were many brave men and women who died in battle who were never givin their deserved honors. that is part of war.
