Which candidate will fix immigration?

We are hearing a lot from various presidential candidates but none seem to be taking any strong stand or making commitments for or against immigration control. Which candidate do you think would best resolve the problem; secure the border, improve our alien work program, and improve our immigration program? Amnesty is not the answer!

Answer:
Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter and Ron Paul.
Ideally we would have one as President and one for Vice President.
These are the only three guys that are calling it like it is.

Hillary hired a former La Raza Unida president to run her campaign so you KNOW where she stands despite her lack of actually saying so.

Unfortunately, as long as we have the likes of Teddy Kennedy and Dianne Feinstein in our Senate, and Supreme Court judges who write their own legislation from the bench, we will have a hard time fixing immigration.

Electing a strong anti illegal immigration President will be a positive first step and will send a clear message to our Senators and Representatives as to what the American people want. Now whether or not they listen remains to be seen. I can tell you for a fact that Dianne Feinstein will not. Dianne Feinstein never saw an amnesty bill she did not like.

The "Supreme Beings" need to be reminded that they are there to interpret Constitutional matters and not to write legislation. Case in point, Plyler vs. Doe. No where in the Constitution or in the 14th amendment does it say ANYTHING about a publically paid for education being guaranteed to an American citizen let alone an illegal alien, yet the Supreme Beings bent, twisted, and perverted the 14th amendment to say that it does.

Bottom line is we need a Government that is willing to fix the immigration problem and We the People need to scream our heads off until they do.
Tom Tancredo
Duncan Hunter
Ron Paul

You sound as if you could be a Tom Tancredo fan.
tom tancredo.
It is terribly unfortunate that I think none of them can, from either the democrats or republicans. The politicians seem to be completely disconnected from the public on this issue which just baffles me. If you took a candidate with a strong stand on stopping it, and he had a decent background from either party, it would be a landslide!

PS. Cosa ... are you delusional? Most Americans don't favor amnesty of any kind, in fact something on the order of 80% do not, get real!
You should check Rudy Giuliani's answer to this. He realizes that the number of immigrants prohibits any mass tossing, but suggests ways to weed out the bad from the good. We would give them the chance to get a tamper proof ID card to track them in a database. Any immigrants who don't come forward to get one are automatically suspicious and if their found without their ID card, the gov't will reason that the reason is probably because they're up to no good and they'll get tossed. The ones who do get them and commit a crime anyway will be either tossed out or put in prison. His method is a way to put a prioritized list on expulsion and adds order to a chaotic system.
If enough people write and call demanding this problem be fixed, anyone of them can fix the problem. However they will not unless they think their government job is in jeopardy
None of the candidates will solve this problem. America wants the immigrants, does not want them, wants them legally, does not want to make them legal, etc. The electorate is not just split on this issue, but schizophrenic, and any workable solution (in terms of a solution that can actually be implemented) will cause an outraged response from some significant portion of the electorate.

I don't have an opinion about what the correct policy should be, but from what I have seen, there's no implementable solution that will get more support than will generate resistance. We will have pretty much the status quo for another couple of presidential campaign cycles at least.

American politics is governed by strong ideological left-right urges these days, and at the national level, compromise and practical solutions are unlikely. The good news is that this spells gridlock, with neither the left or the right able to realize their agenda. The bad news is that compromise solutions made for the real world rather than the symbolic world of ideological purity also will not be implemented. Nothing much is going to happen.
I doubt that any of them are ready for the backlash that would be caused. You are correct that Amnesty is not the answer. How many people are going to be up in arms if the government was to start rounding up people and stuffing them on to rail cars for shipment south? Think about it, It may not be the candidates, but the will,or lack of by the people. Right now the candidates are trying to get elected. In doing so they have to try to appeal to the greater majority. The problem is the mindset of the people and the overall lack of information on how big the problem really is. I doubt that any of the candidates are willing to make the hard choices.
ME !
None.

But if he were running, I'd say Senator Palpatine might be effective in that regard.
Well, the republicans were in charge the last 6 years of every branch of government from the senate, to the house, and the president and they did NOTHING absolutely NOTHING to stop or slow down illegals coming into this country. Now that they are here, it's stupid to think the day will come when someone will just round them up and take them back. All those who voted the repubs into office the past few years now have to lay in the bed they made when it comes to illegals
Ron Paul. He advocates a very practical and generally libertarian idea for solving the immigration issue. He wants to close up the borders as tight as any American should. Use walls only over portions, we can now use technology for portions of the border with motion and heat sensors, cameras and other things. He wants to close up and secure our borders to help American economies. BUT, libertarians and others, including Ron Paul also see the severe problem that would ensue from criminalizing or deporting or jailing 12+ mil. immigrants. Thus, we should allow basically a one time exception so that the economy and labor sector won't suffer too much. standards for this one time amnesty would be stringent, any criminals or repeat offenders should be sent back and the should have verified employers that must verify or sponsor the candidate for citizenship. in the end, THE INDIVIDUAL BEING GRANTED CITIZENSHIP should be forced to pay a fine/fee to cover the tremendous costs associated with all of the paperwork and effort required to complete this transaction.

it's really a great idea. 1-seal off the borders 2-don't damage the economy too much and get everyone inside the U.S. who entered illegally verified and send them accordingly. 3-make the immigrants who have worked hard here have to pay the costs for obtaining citizenship through this plan because this should be their responsibility.
RON PAUL is the only one really WANTING to fix it without going towards the NAU.
none of them. the reason many of them don't make a strong stand on immigration is the same reason they don't take a strong stand on stem cell research or gay marriages. they do not wish to offend potential voters and votes.for right now i'm just waiting to see what will happen in the next few weeks and maybe later will be able to answer this question.
