I live in Peterborough and work in Yaxley. I don't know any figures, but I can say there's a lot here. The place I work has a lot. The crew I'm on has five people counting me. The other four are Polish. I'm an American by birth. They don't mix with me. They are nice, but I'm sure they talk about me. On the up side, I have learned some Polish swear words.

I don't think English is taught as a second language. Not very much at least. None of the Polish I know didn't speak any English before they came here. Some speak it quite well now. A girl working in another part of the factory can't speak a word of it.

Theres not as many Polish, as there is Asian people. Why do British, & Irish keep Slagging the Poles? Is it because they work 100 times harder & have a lot mre self respect thaan us Brits? Also, do you know how many Brits are living abroad? Aot more than we have Polish living in Britain.
Give em a break, they are quite nice if you give them a chance!

Yes loads and they are stoppping people from working.
The work agencies like the polish because they work for peanuts whilst agencies charge full whack, several of my polish neighbours only get minimum wage for jobs that they should be getting £7 or £8 an hour for so the agencies are miking it.
Cheek of it is, I cant get work because of them...
Hard to say without a Statistic. But, Poland about the size of Arizona in America (One State). Poland teaches English (British?) to many of it's people. So, for work reasons, I assume Poland like many American States as people may need to move to another State for work. Since the people learn English as a second language they would most likely move to the closer country first (Close to home and family), though many move to Canada and America also. This all I can say and I probably making a "Speculation", sorry.

Lol. Nah, I'm joking. There are loads and it is really difficult to find low skill jobs at the moment (I think they may have something to do with it). But they're alright. They seem friendly and polite. The new guy working in the cafe I go to is polish and he's really cool. He tried to put on a cockney accent sometimes -- "Alroite Moite" (Alright Mate). Hahaha... priceless.

Being a Polak myself, I'll answer this.
The European Union allows free movement (duh) between the member states. While France and Germany put in place controls to curb Eastern European migration, the UK (along with Ireland) did not impose restrictions. Following Poland's entry into the EU in 2004 that now by the start of 2007 about 375,000 Poles have registered to work in the UK, although the total Polish population in the UK is believed to be 750,000. Many Poles I know work in seasonal occupations and a large number move back and forth including between Ireland and other EU Western nations. Personally I don't like how some people do that. I'd say about a quarter of Eastern European migrants, often young and well-educated (me), plan to stay in Britain permanently. Alot of us had originally intended to go home but have changed our minds after living here. There's a fellow I know who was a electrician back in Poland and now he makes more money mopping floors. (Shurgs) That's how things stand.
