Do I need to change my canadian passport to my married name.?
Answer:
The Canadian Passport agency (in source section) indicates that you have 2 choices: 1. You can carry the old passport and proof of your name change, e.g. marriage license or 2.) you need to apply for a new passport. For the latter, there are easy instructions in the "Canadian living in the US" portion.
I think you do, at least in the U.S. Your maiden name no longer reflects who you are anymore. Especially with the threat of terriorists it's better that your idenity on your passport reflect who you are.
Legally you are not required to change your name, but you can change at your own desire. Usually people can change their name when they are under naturalization process. But that is only if you want to become a US citizen, which normally takes 5 years of residence. Other option you have is, you can go to your local court with your marriage certificate and apply for a name change.
Are you legally married in Canada? You're passport must reflect your legal name in the country of issue. You may have to have your name officially changed or be remarried to change your passport. If you intend to have children, you'll definitely want to do this so you'll have the same last name as they will have on their passports. In the meantime, just keep a copy of your marriage license handy.
