I agree with you, all these people will have to step up and pay them as they would an American, who do you think they will hire then? Someone who speaks english or someone who dont?
Anyway, I think we have way to many to pick the crops, 15 million, they are not here picking crops, their here picking the American tax payers pocket.

If Mexicans are not allowed to do various jobs related to produce in the US, the price of fruits and vegetables is going to go up substantially.

Should not be explioting labor like that to begin with legalize aliens and stronger labor laws you have affect of making it so under the table employment is less likely. Keeping them illegal is increasing the hidden costs to the taxpayer, and legalization would actually smack it back to employers that expilot the labor. The vast majority of growers need the workers to pick the crops and paying decent wages, but when the immigration system is set where contractors pick and choose the workers that where wages are supressed. Legalize them they will still pick the crop for the most, and big argiculture probadly have to pay higher wages since the legal aliens will be to take the compnay to court over wage pratices and other labor issues. Its the 10% of growers abusing the workers, and the other 90% of growers are really short of workers, and treating them well, Also, deportation of migrants will not slove the problem and the migrants will be back within a few months or years. Immigration problem will only go down when countries south of the Untied States economies have incomes that are half of the United States until that happens were stuck with them coming over.
They get about $14 dollars a basket of strawberries, if they know what they are doing. However, it is not pleasant work, and as soon as they get their feet on the ground even illegals leave for better paid jobs in construction. That is why Agjobs was created, agriculture needed a working class it could indenture, that couldn't be legalized until it worked x years and the boss said they waz a 'good worker'.
OR they could raise wages out of the poverty level, a 40% raise that would cost the average American family of 4 $10 per year more for produce, per studies. Labor is simply not that big a part of the price of produce. I'd be for that. At that price, and with health insurance, many legally here would go for it. But then the businesses would have to pay the cost of their employees instead of expecting their kids to get food stamps subsidized by us.
Flip side of the same question. If you deport all illegals, who's going to pick the crops? I've lived in California. Homeless, jobless Americans are not applying for those jobs. They would rather stand on the freeway exits and beg for change. Pathetic. Healthy, able Americans begging for a handout while illegals work their butts off in the hot sun. I am an American, but I support the individual who tries to make a living by working over the lazy beggar who wants the easy way out.!
That was the magic of the amnesty of 2007 that would grant amnesty 12-20 million illegals , it was the gift that kept giving just like the amnesty of 1986 brought in the amnesty of 2007.
Who knows what next amnesty will bring in 2027, maybe 20-50 million. Like I said it is the gift that keeps giving
I almost paid 2.49 for two peaches a few days ago. I had to stop myself. I said self, we need more illegals here to pick them peaches. Them peaches are way too expensive. It must have taken that illegal two hours to pick them two peaches plus fourty-nine cent for gasoline to get them peaches to my market.

The real issue isn't pickers or workers. There are plenty of Americans who would do those jobs. Plenty !

Congress told us last year that they would secure the BORDERS and they have not secured the borders yet.
Immigration can't even keep up with requests for passports from US citizens. They had to extend the deadline for passports to travel to the Canada, Carribean, Mexico etc. There can't have been more than two or three million requests pending.
So how the heeeeeelllllll does congress expect us to believe that they can track twenty million illegals, ensure that they go home, pay their fines and reenter legally? It CAN NOT BE DONE----------------- PERIOD !!

WRONG!! How about Cost of Living increases, Union scale wages, Night defferntial, raises every 6 months 2 weeks paid vacation after one year, get rid of Right to Work and get some real Employment laws. what's to stop Them?..they can actually shut the joint and Non-Smoking facilities down!.
