We can't fight a war on terrorism with open borders. It is an oxymoron. The borders should've been closed after 9/11.
Fewer people die of terrorist acts than die of breast cancer. The incredible outpouring of funding, effort and consciousness raising applied to the threat of breast cancer has somehow escaped my notice...
The best way for america to fight terrorism is to refuse to bow down to the changes their pressure is meant to achieve in our previously free society. In some sense we can *only* fight terrorism with open borders.

Can you imagine the expense of building a wall between the US and Mexico and then between the US and Canada, how about Alaska and Canada. What about Hawaii, a wall around that to keep people from entering from the sea? A wall alone won't do it, those can be cut or scaled, so we would have to have them lit and manned every 50 to 100 yards. Remember before 9/11 the biggest terrorist ever was Timothy McVeigh and he was home grown, no fence would have helped here. The best way to defeat terrorist is more law enforcement, better intelligent gathering and strict laws that would make it illegal to house or employ anyone except legal residents.

If we open the borders to more legal immigration, we can devote more resources to fighting terrorism. The terrorists and drug runners would have fewer undocumented crossers to hide behind.
That question is flawed...as is your perception of Terrorism! You cannot "fight" Terrorism with a "War" or a "Wall" (The wall idea didn't really work well for Germany - only pushed them further apart)
Terrorism (such a political catch phrase these days) cannot be fought with weapons, but only through education. Our government will not educate its own citizens on the TRUE FACTS of why certain people dislike us - and the same is true of these people your call "Terrorists"... Someone needs to step forward and start taking the correct actions (HONESTY) - let me tell you who won't... The people who are having the greatest natural resource STOLEN from them while they struggle to feed their families...and live in Poverty... I suggest we (USA) take the first steps in creating this paradigm shift. But we are too concerned with Politics and Money. Firstly, we can't fight the terrorism with open borders right now! Since, currently with tightly closed borders, nobody feels safe enough! This situation is probably an outcome for our past and current foreign policy.
We better start respecting the other people's belief. We better understand their problems and not to support unjust positions and not to take a side against a group of people or a nation during crisis in the world.
I believe this makes them to gradually appreciate and respect us back as a great advanced nation in future even with open borders.

we can,t . but we need to strictly enforce border laws, give officers incentive to do a good job, like releasing the two border patrol officers in prison for doing their job. need to rid our country of all illegals, most are criminals, unfortunatly some are good but need to get intry the right way and know there is no more free rides here. also we are getting rid of bush soon and hopefully we can build a good world image again and the terrorist will quite, unlikley but mabye we can get it under control
