Is there any way to obtain a Germany Citizen in less than 8 years?

I'm an American with family in Germany. Is there anyway to become a naturalized German Citizen in less than 8 years? I'd like to become a citizen in around 3 years.

Answer:
if you're married to a German national you can get German citizenship after three years of living in Germany (thereof two years married).

Other German "family" won't help.

You can apply for the citizenship about 6 months in advance.

Clean criminal record, sufficient financial funds, German language skills and (usually) abandonment of other citizenships required.
If you are employed using a working visa and remain employed for a full six years (can be different empoyers), the (Arbeitsamt) German working office can issue a Niederlassungserlaubnes (this is the right to work and live in Germany for an unlimited time)Its not citizenship but very close...
