Yeah, I'm Irish and there are loadsa eastern europeans living here now. However, theyre mostly doing labour jobs and repetitive work, jobs that Irish people dont want anymore bacause theyre mostly educated or have trades. Why resent anyone a job? If our economy failed, would you not go elsewhere looking for work to feed your family?
It's silly to moan they have all the jobs, highly developed countries like Ireland and the UK need immigrants to keep our economies rolling. Unemployment is at an all time low.
Lazy people will always find an excuse for not having a job, it's just a shame they blame honest people doing an honest days work for basic pay.

Heres my view:
Firstly, I believe that the Government, especially in America is not concerned about immigration at all. look back and you will see that the same old problem happens time after time. Amnesty every few years for millions of illegal immigrants, they are allowed to become citizens if they hold their hands up and say sorry, ie the G H Bush/ Bill Clinton Amnesty in 2001 and the GW proposed amnesty going through the house at present.
Other easy to implement measures are rarely acted upon and so exfoliate the problem of Illegal immigration, ie: Employers being allowed to get away with paying peanuts to Illegal workers and exploiting them to do the menial jobs that there are no American citizens to do ie: Gardening, Cleaning, Hard labor, Fruit picking on farms. Can anyone see an American doing any of those Jobs, it is a very rare occurrence.
The Government has an ulterior motive to not fine employers, as they really do want the immigrants here. What about those lines of Illegals all over towns near Home Depots getting day work off contractors, it is rare that anything is ever done about that, if you ask most people in any town in America where do the illegals line up for work they will tell you directions immediately. What about that flipping great big hole (many miles long) in the border fence near San Diego that was there for Decades. Arnold Schwarzeneger had to Embarrass the Federal Government to fix it. The Government need a constant influx of immigrants as does most western countries, they just can never agree on how to do it properly.
These times are supposed to be about working towards the global economy, exporting Jobs around the world to benefit the needy people of poorer countries. Look at how whole industries, with Western Government Support have moved over to China, India and now North Africa ie: The cotton and clothing industries, Manufacturing and now customer call centers are moving away too, the Jobs are being replaced with High Tech industries and more service type work.
If we are now a world economy then we need a Global work force too, anyone should be allowed to move to any country of their choice by applying in a proficient and timely manner, with background checks, have work or business to move into their new country, speak the language of the country and not be a burden on that countries welfare benefit system, they go to the new country to work.
It takes too long to go through the legal immigration process and it is too exclusive to most types of workers for it to be of any use in the future, this is why workers often choose the illegal route to get into a country or remain there. It is easier for them to marry or pay someone to marry them to obtain Citizenship or set up a Business and apply for a Business Visa among other ingenious methods. Whilst it is too difficult to emigrate to the country of their choice there will always be illegal immigration problems.
In Europe over the last few years EEC member states allow each others citizens to relocate to other states within the community without the need to apply first, they are allowed to just arrive, passport stamped and then apply for jobs and enroll in schools, get a NHS Doctor and benefit from all of that countries resources just like any other Natural Born citizen of that country.
Now there are teething problems and some say that their country has been overrun with immigrants that do not speak the language, taking jobs, reducing their wages and taking the menial work away from natural born citizens. This is what happens when the process is not managed very well by the Governments involved and will have to be improved so as not to cause racial conflicts within a country.
The way forward is for more social, cultural and religious integration from peoples around the World to eradicate prejudice and racism in order to avoid future conflict and wars.

It makes me laugh loads. I've never been out of work for more than a day, as I have found jobs, even if the pay isn't quite what I hoped, and even if it wasn't quite the line of work that I wanted to be in. Some people are too damn lazy, bigotted to be bothered to find work, and some pay is better than no pay. They need to stop reading the Sun and the Daily Mail and get into the real world!

I agree. The Health Service would be in tatters if it wasn't for foreign workers. Think of all the doctors and nurses from over-seas that work in the UK. If you're struggling to get a job go to college and get some qualification. There are some people out there who are happy to stay unemployed and like to blame others so they don't have to get off their arses.

Sometimes i wonder myself cos as you said,jobs are advertised every day and when you go to the job centers,you will be amazed at the number of jobs available.
The problem is those who complain do not really want to work or are looking for work they are not qualified for.
There are sooo many jobs Available , its just some poeple are too lazy or just can't hold a job. Imagine If we had to rely on our Hip Hop generation to do the jobs some of these mexicans do for us. Please a few employers would get shot , and frankly lets face it some might even preffer being on welfare.
The only americans that are threatened by foreign nationals working in the US are the one that are lazy and find a comepetitive work place frankly tooo competitive to survive in.
I say to everyone who is scared of foreign nationals , ask your self this one question whats the real reason you are out of a job? Is it cuz you usually turn up late to work / miss work or just incompetant that your boss fired your ***.
If you really want a job you can find one, it's a poor excuse using foreigners as the reason YOU are not working. Jobs are out there. It may not be the one you want or pay you want but you can work until find what you want. You can even go to school (while working) to ensure a secure well paying job in the future. Just stop using other people as an excuse for YOU not working!

yes definitely. If they can't get a job it's because they're under-qualified, present themselves badly at interviews, have bad references or whatever. There are plenty of jobs if you're not too proud.
Actually it is a bit more complicated than that.
Yes, there are many jobs that people can do, but they do not want to do them, so immigrants (legal and illegal) do them instead.
But there are other cases where this is not so. Look at building. In some areas, the building market has been saturated with Polish builders. That means home grown builders can not get the work they are trained to do. Which means that the person who is skilled in a trade, now has to enter the job market as someone who is unskilled. I can understand why such a person would feel resentment to immigrant workers due to that. Especially as that will result in a big loss of income.
But other posters here are right. If it was not for immigrant workers, the country would grind to a halt. No one forces immigrants to clean toilets, work anti-social hours and do loads of un-skillled work that lots (but not all immigrants) do, they do it because few from the UK want to do it themselves.

The jobs available are mainly so low paid because of foreign workers, that a family could not survive at our cost of living! Unless it could find an empty toilet on the embankment to live in of course.

There are job postings all the time and I don't understand why people just don't go and get a job, the pay is crappy SO WHAT, its a job deal with it.
There ARE jobs out there that do pay decent, you just have to look for them.
