Illegal Immigrant Sues Radio Station For Following Law An illegal immigrant is suing a radio station because it abided by U.S. federal law in requiring her to provide a valid Social Security or tax identification number before giving her a prize she won in a contest.
When the Mexican woman, living illegally in Chicago for 15 years, could not provide the proper documents, the station refused to giver her the prize. The woman had won a sports car previously owned by a popular Mexican singer and federal law requires the station to report the Social Security number of everyone who wins a prize worth more than $500.
Now the illegal alien, Maribel Nava Alvarez, is actually suing the Chicago Spanish-language station, WLEY, for breach of contract and emotional distress even though she is the one who for years has violated U.S. immigration law. Her attorney says that the station never informed his client that she had to be a legal U.S. resident to be eligible for the prize and that there wasn’t even any “fine print” requiring it. The station is owned by the largest Hispanic radio broadcasting company in the United States, Miami Florida-based Spanish Broadcasting System. The company owns stations in the nation’s top Hispanic markets, including Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, New York and San Francisco and is considered a champion for Hispanic rights and the legalization of working immigrants.
Never the less, the company operates in the United States and must abide by the country’s federal laws. One Chicago newspaper editorial sums up the irony of this woman seeking legal rights in a country whose laws she has violated for most of her life. It reads, in part: For Alvarez to claim a breach of contract when she was unable to provide the legally required Social Security or tax ID number, let alone proof of legal residence, is to seek protection under laws of a country to which she has never sworn an oath.

Should an illegal be able to 'sue' an American? Um, let me think. NO. Why? Because as far as I'm concerned, they don't have one damn right in this country except to get legal or leave.
Hopefully she is arrested and deported.

sounds like the radio station did not list that the winner must have a SSN or be a legal US resident, or she would not have a case. Regardless if her case is sound or not, our govt allows anyone to sue anyone for anything. viva la democracia. lol
The radio stationed threatened to call INS on her . The problem here is she is illegal she doesn't know the laws. She does not have to be told of the laws because she is illegal, not a citizen of this country.
I live in Chicago, and even the illegals here think she is stupid.
She doesn't have any rights in this country, but I'm glad she is willing to risk deportation just so she can get a free ride.
If she was a legal citizen she would have known she has to pay taxes on prize winnings

If they never said you have to be a US citizen then she has a case.... what if she was here on vacation and won it???

The station should call her and tell her to please report to the station and pick up her prize. Upon arrival ICE should CUFF her and STUFF her All the way back to Mexico.
this gets dumber & dumber by the day, it is difficult to believe some of the totally outrageous behavior exhibited by some of these criminals. What really boggles the mind are the people who continue to defend the criminals and their behaviors.

If every citizen of the United States has to show 2 forms of ID and have a valid ocial security number to claim a prize according to the Federal Law, then so be it..
I am jut so aggravated about this illegal trying to sue over a corvette that she has no legal right to claim as a financial gain...she has stolen enough from everyone in the US for 15 years already..
