They were a easy scapegoats, because they were the money changers. When a country has internal problems they look for a group of people that can be picked on with little or no repercussions, to blame their woes on.
Because they are different.
I am not sure what records if any they kept back then and frankly I don't care.

They were, for the most part legal/citizens..But they were "taking over" many Germans feared, they were strong nationalists..Not only the Jews, but people from Poland and other Eastern European nations were not wanted their either.When you get a megalomaniac in charge, who is racist and a compliant people, like the Germans, you will have a Nazi Germany.

Because the Jews were not Europeans! They were illegal, and illegal means illegal. They never were and never will Europeans or Whites, even if many of them mixed with Europeans. Jews are a separate ethnic group and a separate religion in the world.
If you look into history,the jews have been expelled from several Euro countries through history. The reasons weren't hate etc. I will leave it up to you to answer your own question by researching into it. I found it quite eye opening.

They were illegally in Germany, Poland, Russia, Spain, UK, and other European countries.
I'll tell you a little that I've learned about people in my time on this wonderful planet of ours.
People despise you if you are a failure and they think they may have to pay a bit of their hard earned tax money to help you out.
On the other hand, they despise you even more if you are too successful. It makes them look inferior. And to compensate for that they will treat you as inferior to make themselves look superior.
No one on earth was more physically and mentally inferior than Hitler and his rag tag group of insane miscreants and thugs he surrounded himself with. And yet they believed they were the superior ones.
Jews on average tend to do very well wherever they go and that is one reason they are hated. On average, they are an intelligent and talented race that doesn't sit around whining about the past like many other races. Even though, arguably they may have more reason than many others.
They also have a competing religion, and the purpose of most religions is to destroy all others.
I'm ashamed that under the insane prime minister we had during WWII, even Canada "the friendly" refused refuge to Jews whose inevitable fate was the death camps, yet now we seem to offer sanctuary to potential terrorists. That may be changing, I sure hope so.
