US Citizenship - Self apply or go through an Attorney? All forms are online..hence want to know pros&cons.?

I am overdue to apply for US Citizenship but now I am inclined to apply finally. I have filled out the N-400 form on USCIS Website and about to file. But I met a friend who instead applied through an attorney. I checked with him on his reason and he said that he did not want any complications in his processing if he missed out anything and hence used an attorney about 5 years ago.

Is it really necessary to go through an attorney since USCIS Website is quite self explanatory. Would really appreciate some insights. Thank you so much!

Answer:
Don't waste your money. A lawyer won't do anything you can't do yourself.

Just try to do things as perfect as you can. Read and reread all the instructions.. go over the papers several times to make sure you didn't make a mistake.

I did it by myself and everything turned out very well. No problems whatsoever.

Be tidy, answer all the questions, send all the papers they require and you'll have no problems. They are pretty strict but they won't bother you if they see no mistakes.

Good luck!
Do it yourself.

An Attorney is really only needed if you feel any of those questions will come back to you with problems.
You made no false statements your OK.

Save your money.

Hi, I don't think you'd need a lawyer...it will cost you an arm and a leg and unless you chose a specialist on this thing, it may go wrong too. I'd fill out the online form as carefully as I can, and if you make a mistake or something, the worst that can happen is that you will have to do it again, but this time you'd know what was your error since they'd probably tell you.

However, I'd first print the blank forms, then fill them out, and after going over them carefully, I'd also ask someone close to you who might have ideas, to go over it.

Lastly, pose the question at www.google.com and see what happens. :o)

Good luck! Adela
Attorneys are only for the lazy that don't want to or don't know how to search. you've already did your research and all you'll be doing is paying someone to fill out your information for you. If your not sure about a question you can call USCIS and they will help you. Save your money for your party when you become a US Citizen. Best wishes to you
Using an attorney is a complete waste of money. The total process is designed for people to do it without an attorney.
If you are:

Detailed oriented,
Have no problems (fraud issues, misrepresentations, criminal activity, etc),
Have time to do it yourself,
Can research and organize, and
are willing to take risk.

Do it yourself.

If you:

Have problems,
Don't want to take any chances
Have money and would rather have peace of mind and no delays and no surprises,
and don't like dealing with bureaucracy,

Hire a lawyer.

It has to be a subjective decision.
Get an attorney

it's not necessary at all, it's perfectly fine if you did it thru the web site, good luck.
