Why dehumanize illegal immigrants?

Yes, entering a territory that demands a visa or documention to reside and work within its boundaries is indeed an infraction. However, the dialogue here far extends this legality breach into really hateful remarks and generalizations. If you oppose illegal migration, a global phenomenon seen world wide, then leave it at that. I went to Iran and they have the same issue with Afganis.. and parts of Germany with Turkish.. Why not stop and think about the issue in terms of people? If anything, complain about corrupt and unstable and indbeted governments, but dehumanizing others, and clumping their individual stories into "criminals" only reflects your own cowardice and inability to see an issue from a global perspective, which is perfectly understandable for ignorant people with little educational background.

Answer:
I appreciate anyone who values this country and wants to live the American dream...unfortunately it's very hard to do it the right way. But we are a nation of laws. Without our laws, where would be?

I married into a family of legal immigrants and I've seen them suffer years of family separations. I've seen them spend thousands of dollars. I've seen them struggle with the English language...but each one of them is determined to work hard to legally become Americans and they are so proud of what they have accomplished.

I don't think our system is perfect by any means. If someone wants to become an American, it should be a easier...but people have to follow the laws of our nation.
exactly!!
To be honest I don't have anything against the illegal immigrants themselves, as long as they are honest and not criminals. The problem is that we have immigration quotas in place for a reason, and they are being ignored. This country can only support so many immigrants. We need to enforce our laws. We have legal ways to enter this country. Yes it takes a long time, but that is the way it is set up. It's not right for illegals to come here and expect amnesty.
I work in medicine. If I didn't dehumanize the patient, I would break down. I see so many deaths and other horrors. TO approach a problem in such a size, we need to make them into numbers. If we must weigh what is best in the long run, not what tugs at are heart. What the bill is asking us is to fizx a problem on a short term goal, rather than look at the big picture.

Yes people will suffer when we deport the illegal immigrants, but that doesn't solve anything at the long run and if we don't deport them now, then even more come in and further increase the suffering. You said you've seen the problems in the world with illegal immigration. Look at France, and see how the North Africans are. The disparity of the immigrants there because of an uncontrolled immigration. The poverty they still sffer and the rioting it cause latter. Wealth is subjective and poverty is meaningless. Its starvation rate that is important. Since the majority or atleast the pluarity of the immigrants are Mexicans, it's not starvation thats drive them here, but seeing the disparity of their lifestyle compared to America. Mexico's standard of living is actually above average, although barely. THe problems we see in the streets is not that they are starving, but they see the disparity of the rich and poor. We do not want to add to the disparity and have more people that are underpaid. We don't need more ethnic underclass angry that they can't live the life they see on TV. If we want to fix the problem in the long hall, we need to close our heart and open our brain and look how we would solve the greater problem. If they are coming here because of overpopulation, letting them in would make matters worse. Preventing emigration out of their own country until the people of that country realize their mistake and change their behavior. Look at Nigeria and India. Sending people to educate them on condoms don't work. If its a corrupt governmetn thats causing the problem, we need to put pressure on their government to change, but letting people into our country who are the least satisfied of their home, will not help in creating a revolution. Immigration is like a pressure release valve. Letting some in will prevent the pot from exploding. If we force them to stay, they would actually atively revolt. Letting them in gives them hope of not dealing with the problem at home. If the problem is the disparity of the rich countries and the poor, well the problem is not that Mexico is not rich enough, but AMerica and the rest of the developed world is too rich. If you notice, our pay is going down. Thats because we have overextended our resources. Adding more people would cause an increase use of resources and aggravate the problem. We need to reduce our level a a sustainable rate. The entire developed world is actually shrinking in population in preperation to reduce our impact on the world. If we have a mass immigration, our attempt to limit our impact on the world would be undone. Besides, the reason why the Mexico and the other thrid world nations have such poor standard of living is because of the corruption, which goes back to us encouraging a type of revolution, military or otherwise.
Yes, illegal presence of individuals is a problem for many of the world's nations. France has increased it's enforcement.
The UK's populace is uneasy with the growing numbers there, and the drain on public resources and many are pressuring their government to tighten controls. The US taxpayers are paying billions in many states in aid to illegal aliens. Australia's laws are essentially, what good can you do for us? Mexico has harsh border laws and their southern border is strongly protected. They arrest, imprison, deport large numbers of illegal aliens annually. Is that dehumanizing to you?
The "humane factors" do exist. Many countries accept war refugees, political refugees, etc. Others do not.
No nation should have the responsibility to take on the burden of another nation's poor.
Each nation does have the responsibility to secure its sovereignty for the good of its citizens.
Each nation has the responsibility of providing for the needs of its citizens above all others.
When a nation can solve all its own problems, ensure all its citizens are fed, housed, receive affordable health care, provide quality education for all the nation's children, then that nation should "lend a hand" to other less unfortunate nations and provide aid.
If a nation is in a position to do so, it should diplomatically encourage other nations to improve their own conditions.
It is not dehumanizing to ask one's own government to place the interests of the people first.
It is not dehumanizing to 'group' illegal aliens, anymore than it is dehumanizing to 'group' sex offenders.
I am less concerned with the 'infraction' as you describe it, than I am with the impact of illegal aliens on our nation's social services, health-care providers, the victims of further 'infractions' such as rape and murder and the future of Social Security and Medicare.
THEY ARE DEHUMANIZING US! They beak our laws and steal our identities and our jobs then have the balls to demand rights!?! F*CK OFF!
Why is it after 22yrs after being let our of jail and 16years after I served my parole I can't get a partial pardon but Bush wants to grant 12 million of them to people who don't even belong here ?
They dehumanize themselves by taking less pay for jobs, treating Americans and themselves like crap ..

When illegal aliens cross the border, do they KNOW it's illegal? (I'd bet 99.9% do!)
Well, then, they should also know that there are punishments for breaking laws. If they still choose to break the law, then they can't come crying to me about it when they get caught and punished.

This is simple logic.

Why dehumanize hard-working, tax-paying Americans? They are only trying to live the AMerican dream and have a peaceful quiet life for their families.

EDIT: To knightrunner: wait until they find some sleazy way of pushing the amnesty bill through, then sue the crap out of the federal government - executive branch.

EDIT: dakapp, wha - wha-- is that you trying to be CLEVER? didn't work.
Hey guess what? yahoo isn't stupid. but the person above me is.
Yes, Countries dehumanize immigrants, because the need something put the blame of their own ineffiency . (i.e: pre-war world II germany - jews).
People had said that other countries have harder immigrations laws. Europe it’s not the case (we do have laws but they are no harder than in the States), the enforcement of laws is a different story (Mexico enforces more his South Borders since the States are giving they money to do so; same deal with Morocco and Europe).
To put a human touch, here is an " anecdote"
My trips to the immigration office were far for pleasant. I could share a lot of horror’s stories with you, but I will just give you a small example:
This woman took the day off work, went to the immigration office at 6:45 to stay on the line. Around 14:00 she was desperate. They didn’t call her yet and she had to get her daughter out kindergarten. I told her “don’t worry give me your name and “turn number”, I will keep my eyes peel for you. An hour latter, I started to worry about her, I approached the des to told the “lady” behind it, this other woman name and “turn number”, to hold onto call her. She looked at me with disgusts, I interrupted an interesting conversation she was having with a lawyer about how could she evicts a tenant she had at one of his “four” San Francisco” houses (by the way, get to own and keep 4 houses in SFO. with a goverment salary... Ummh. ...That worman must be a genius) . Her answer: “We just know people here by their Alien’s number”. The happy ending, the Mexican woman was back around 16:00 h, and she was call an hour latter.
Note: every single paper you turn in to be a legal immigant has a fee. Also we "support" jobs at clinics, and immigration lawyers.
P.S:
Fixing the problems on the emigration countries it is a beautiful idea… if some one has a quick magical solution please step forward. Also formulas for beating corruption are welcome (they could be also apply to American bureaucracy).
Neither I buy the idea that First world population has a negative growth because we want to minimize our impact in the use of natural's resources… common’… what that’s supposed to mean? Because they are poor and we are sucking their resources… they will never develop enough to help us to trash the planet…? How do you combine that with the idea of helping them so they don’t try to come here…? That raises another question, who is going to pay our retirements… ? Are we going to live for ever like vampires… ? relocating factorys in countries that do no respect human rights and do no care for enviromental laws is far more damaging at both sides of the world, and it has more impact in our salaries.
An American woman told me once speaking about my problems with the INS: “I don’t understand why they are so hard on you; like you were one of those Mexicans that come here to steal our jobs”. She was trying to be nice, I guess, but it sick my stomach. She was the girlfriend and co-worker of a friend of mine, at that time, at the reception desk of the Downtown SFO Marriot; only one person at the desk speak Spanish, my friend, a red hair fifth or sixth generation Irish-American, What job was she talking about…? Maybe she was applying for maintenance or cleaning job, and couldn’t get the “promotion”…Go figure…
THEY DONT HAVE A RIGHT TO BE HERE.
Amen to that. Well put
YOU ARE 100,000,000,000.00% right, thanks for being human.
