Some of these answers are unreal!! Love how people try to put a spin on this issue and say Mexicans get deported too. They might get deported, but they turn right back around and re-enter illegally again. Not every illegal Mexican gets deported! Geez!!
Of course it is double standards!! Not sure the exact details of this Iraq woman, but I know that immigration goes after people that have expired VISA. Which they should, don't get me wrong. But, unfortunately, it is far easier for immigration to go after them, than to go after an illegal Mexican who just snuck across the border and has no way of being tracked!!
War torn countries do not border with the US. If they did, they would also be jumping over the fence.

Don't you know straight out criminals are walking the street, then the cops are worried about you speeding, or jaywalking?
They make examples of people who are usual law abilding people and let the criminals remain untouched. Something is in it for the goverment on everything they do.
There is something going on between mexico and US that we all don't know about...agreements? Who knows?
However, we don't know all the facts=just because it is on the news don't make it the gospel.

people in US seem to have issues with people who come here from other places, even mexicans. many get sent back. Police, border patrol and all the likes are just mean people. when i cross back to the states from mexico i feel like im somehow doing something wrong with the way they always look at me. yet i can just walk right into mexico. Honestly In the US even having been born here. Im afraid that one day some cop will kill me or set me up.

Half of all legal immigrants are Mexicans and we still let in millions of hispanics illegally come in here. We love Mexicans over other nationalities. Mexicans aren't even starving or their lives endanger and their standard of living is just above the median of all nations.
For those who's IQ is less than 100, it's sarcasm. I've been saying in here that if we really need workers, we should shut down our border with Mexico and let in people who really need it. There are wars all over the world and peole starving . Mexico's government despite its faults, is not as bad as some of the other countries. People keep saying we should let Mexicans get amnesty because they are so bad off, well there are people who have it worse and really need our charity.
first of all, avegirl why are you comparing illegal immigrants with criminals on the street. That is very ignorant of you to say that. The mexicans come to the U.S. to have a better life, since in Mexico there aren't no good jobs and the majority of the people live in poverty. Live is very bad over there and is very different than here.
Just for the record,some Mexicans are deported too but not nearly enough of them. And many times after being deported they just sneak back into the US.

Well, without getting too deep here, I see your point and a short opinionated explanation would be this:
It is easier and cheaper (even if not ethical/moral/blah blah) to send a handful of people back than it is to send back 12 million plus people back at one time.
And as a previous answerer said, if that "war-torn" country was on one of our borders, they would all be jumping the fence...
Mexicans come to work and and do hard work, if mexicans were here to have fun. They wouldnt be here. They come to work hard and harder than any other race. Thats the only reason they are here, they are the ones who work in construction sites washing dishes in the kitchens and doing yard work, try to go out and do yard work at noon and see if you can stand how hot it is. and get on the top of a roof. I d would get informed before speaking.
The illegals are NOT allowed to jump the fence. It is illegal. They get caught, they get deported.
If someone has status and breaks the law, they get deported.
How do you know this woman won't survive in Iraq?
