I am an American born citizen holding both US & Irish passports. Can I live/ work anywhere in the EU?

I want to move to Italy but I will need to work there, and therefore need to aquire work permits, etc. Will my Irish passport allow me to move anywhere in Europe(namely Italy), and to seek employment in that country, even though I have never even lived or worked in Ireland? Does my Irish passport provide me with the benefits of being an EU "citizen", even though I have never lived or worked anywhere in Europe, and have only paid taxes in the US. I am Hoping to move to Italy and it would be far less difficult to obtain a work permit if I am indeed an EU card holder. Does anybody know this information first hand or where I may obtain answers?

Answer:
Yes you can. I'm English and my husband is also American with an Irish passport and I researched it and as long as you enter the EU on your Irish passport, you are fine and can move about like everyone else. However, if you enter on your US passport, you'll be subject to the normal restrictions for Americans traveling.
yes you may.doesn't matter that you didn't pay taxes there because you never worked or lived there
You may only live in France. Paris is nice at this time of year apparently.
Tara Irish here. Since you have an Irish passport you can live in any EU country. Since Ireland is a remember of the EU. You don't need a visa etc. You get the same as all Europeans here "free health etc. So enjoy Italy.
What you have is what is called 'duel nationality', lucky you. As an Irish citizen, you are automatically a citizen of the EU since Ireland [Eire] is a member state of the European Union [EU].

You should face little difficulty obtaining any necessary documents to work in Italy, where I am sure you will be made most welcome.

I have an Irish friend who is the proud holder of a 'life visa' to the USA. You could not get one today for love nor money. It means he only needs to carry his Irish or British passport to get into the States. "Welcome friend".

The most famous Irishman ever to enter the United States was of course Oscar Wilde, who upon arrival was asked, "do you have anything to declare", to which Oscar replied, "only my genious."
As others have said, yes you can! Ireland, Italy, Britain, Spain, Portugal , France Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will all welcome you to visit or work with no probs!
yes as long as the country is part of the EU you can work and live there.
yes u can ur a EU citizen.
absolutly, no worrys there! contact your embassy they will inform you of all the details..
yes, but be warned, there's a lot of paper work and red tape involved.
There is no such thing as an EU citizen. You are an Irish citizen and yes you can work in any country that is within the European Union. What you do is go to Ireland and get PPS (tax number) you file taxes in Ireland and the country that you work in. Good luck.
no,who do u think u r yank.
