Does the right wing have the support it claims regarding the immigration issue?

"Action taken by the neoconservatives during the 1st 7 years they had control of Congress to reform the immigration system:
None
Action taken by the neoconservatives after 9/11, when the border was a national security issue:
None
(the "wall" doesn't count--it was never funded, so the authorization means nothing.)
Actions taken by the neoconservatives since losing control of Congress on immigration:
Blocked THEIR president's belated effort to get a basically conservative reformbill passed.

And when, in 2009, a far more liberal immigration reform bill is passed and becomes law--the right wing will have no cause for complaint. They had their chance."

Answer:
Well, the republicans were in charge the last 6 years of every branch of government from the senate, to the house, and the president and they did NOTHING absolutely NOTHING to stop or slow down illegals coming into this country. Now that they are here, it's stupid to think the day will come when someone will just round them up and take them back. All those who voted the repubs into office the past few years now have to lay in the bed they made when it comes to illegals
Based on the failure of the imegration bill, I say YES.
Your assuming that one will pass in 2009..but you and I both know that may not fly.The Majority of Americans let it be known that we were not pleased with what the senate was trying to ram down our throats last week...I dont think it will get any easier over the next couple of years either...even with a Dem President.
OK, wait a minute. I might agree with some of your premise, but let's get a few things straight here.

1. Neo-conservatives are NOT the same people as the ones you're calling "right wing" opponents to amnesty bills.

2. The Bush-Kennedy-McCain bill was FAR from a conservative bill. It probably was a pro-business bill, but that's not the same thing, even though your press reports would suggest that it is.

3. The "wall" does count. It doesn't count as action, but it counts as something that ought to have been done before consideration of these amnesty proposals. Not that I think it's the answer, nor do I even like the idea of a wall, but it's designed as a first step, so it makes more sense to do it first.

4. 2009 will not bring a far more "liberal" immigration reform bill. And even if it does, I doubt if conservatives would have any more problems with it than they did with this one. I think you have a confused idea about why the opposition to this bill was so strong. It had nothing to do with all the add-ons. It had to do with granting amnesty. Simple as that.

5. There's no way to know who's going to be in congress in 2009. Yes, it appears that Republicans are morons who have no clue how to ever regain a majority. But Democrats are equally dim, and can only win because Republicans are more non-responsive. I'll be surprised if this election doesn't see a record number of incumbents of both parties going down to defeat. If that happens, there's no telling what will come out.
Most political analysts I have seen conversing on this subject have said the right wing refusal to support immigration reform is just another nail in the coffin of the Republican party.

Consider: In Florida, 20% of the voting population is Hispanic. That segment of the population had voted Republican in 2001, thereby giving Bush the Presidency. Now, by alienating that voting block, which will likely vote Democratic in 2008, the Republicans have NO CHANCE to win Florida.

Without Florida, the Republican nominee will have NO CHANCE at the Presidency.
All I know Is that the next president is going to be very tough on ILLEGALS,the AMERICAN PEOPLE will make sure of that. The more the ILLEGALS spout off,and DEMAND "RIGHTS",the more galvanized the AMERICAN PEOPLE become. I hope they keep flapping their lips..
The wall was never funded

Funny...it's being built
You don't seem to understand the word "neoconservative." Most Republicans are not "neoconservatives."

Neoconservatives are Democrats who moved to the Republican party during the cold war because of opposition to communism. Many were formerly leftist Jews who were concerned by the left's increasing hostility to Israel. The neoconservatives are only a small part of the Republican Party. Their primary outlet is the magazine "The Weekly Standard."

You seem to be very confused as neoconservatives generally supported the Bush-Kennedy Amnesty bill and tend to have liberal views on immigration. "The Weekly Standard" is very pro-immigration.

Furthermore, the immigration bill was not "basically conservative." If it was, Ted Kennedy and most Democrats would have been against it and Republicans would have mostly supported it.
You are missing one thing: the ground swell of the people overloading the switchboards with phonecalls. Politicians want to be reelected. The amnesty rallies last year woke a sleep giant - the American electorate. (The democrats didn't want this to pass anyhow, they need immigration as an issue in '08... and '12 and ...)

People need to wake up! We need to have sovereign borders! The US is too much of an insolvent welfare state in 2007 to allow the world's endless poor to come with impunity.

Anyhow, once the borders are REALLY AND FINALLY protected and the law is enforced, most of the opposition to amnesty and the liberal policies of the bill will die off. We just want our first, you broke your promise the last 10 times! Then, and only then, you can have your 20 million Z visas.

Signed,
The American Electorate
Super Chee is a monkey, obviously, who illegally immigrated here himself. He knows nothing of what he talks, he has the IQ of a child with down syndrome.
Oh what bill is passed ?
The support for immigration reform and border security crosses party lines. What ever happened in the past is about to change soon.
