Answer:
I find it disheartening that the same people who scream "freedom of speech" will also scream "separation of church & state" when ANYONE who is affiliated with any religious organization or even calls him/herself a Christian dares to open his/her mouth to comment, suggest or have an opinion on anything deemed a "political" issue. My point for months has been that God's laws are higher than man's laws. We, as Americans, choose to see this as a political issue. That doesn't mean that God sees it that way. The fact that so many undocumented immigrants are here to me screams of proof that God is not a respecter of our man-made laws built specifically to protect our own interests while ignoring & even spewing hate towards our neighbors & our fellow-man. He does not respect that. There are those that will argue with me that Jesus Christ respected all laws. The Bible says "He who knew NO SIN became sin for us." The Bible also says that Jesus Christ healed a man with a withered hand IN THE TEMPLE ON THE SABBATH, a DIRECT violation of Jewish law.
Matthew 12:9-16
9 Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, 10 and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?" 11 He said to them, "If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? 12 How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath." 13Then he said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. 14 But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus. 15Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. Many followed him, and he healed all their sick, 16 warning them not to tell who he was."
In this passage Jesus Christ Himself not only OPENLY DEFIES the law of the land but He tells the people not to tell the Pharisees who He was! For those of you who cry that God tells us to honor the laws of the land by skewing Romans 13 & choosing certain versions of that passage to support your weak views how do you explain how Jesus Christ, who knew NO SIN openly defied the law of the land WITHOUT SIN? Because He knew His Father's law was higher & superior to this man-made law.
The only Christian way to look at this issue is with compassion & forgivness. After all, compassion was shown to us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Compassion was shown to our immigrant ancestors & the proof of that is that we are here today in this great country & allowed to debate this issue freely. Compassion & forgivness have been shown to us in that we have been blessed despite the way in which our ancestors attained this land & despite the treatment they showed to the Natives who already inhabited the land when they arrived. Which reminds me of another Biblical story which directly correlates with this issue:
Matthew 18:23"Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand talents was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt. 26 "The servant fell on his knees before him. 'Be patient with me,' he begged, 'and I will pay back everything.' 27 The servant's master took pity on him, canceled the debt and let him go. 28 "But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii. He grabbed him and began to choke him. 'Pay back what you owe me!' he demanded. 29 "His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, 'Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.' 30 "But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt. 31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were greatly distressed and went and told their master everything that had happened. 32 "Then the master called the servant in. 'You wicked servant,' he said, 'I canceled all that debt of yours because you begged me to. 33 Shouldn't you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?' 34 In anger his master turned him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed. 35 "This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart."
God has dealt with us mercifully. We must deal with these new immigrants with mercy as well lest God remove his mercies from us & hold us accountable for all we have done wrong.
