Cost and standard of living in Australia?
Any idea of how the cost and standard of living in Australia compare to the UK's?
Answer:
Hi there, I am from London but for the past 2 years, I have been splitting my time between London and Melbourne.
In terms of cost of living, average pay/earnings is higher in the UK for sure (I am a compensation consultant and am very familiar with pay levels). Of course there will certainly be some exceptions for certain profession/jobs or industries. But in general, salary levels in Australia are below the UK. The pay gap between the two countries varies depending on which part of the country/city you're looking at specifically.
Most things are cheaper in Oz compared to the UK, most noticeable things include properties, most food produce (eg fresh meat and fruit/veg in particular), public transport. However import items such as cars are in general more costly in Oz.
Standard of living is hard to say, depending on what one enjoys and looks for in live. The pace is a lot slower in Oz, a lot less crowded in most cities, more outdoor living due to better weather.
Its much cheaper to live in Australia, there are less people, the wages are so much more better tha the UK. THe sun shines a lot, we are more laid back.
