How do I ask to reschedule an interview?
Answer:
Call the second one bck and let them know that you have a prior appointment and could not make it at 10. You dont have to tell them what it is. Then ask very politely and apologetic if there woudl be anyway to make it another time.
Be very polite and apologetic about the situation.
Say that an unexpected commitment that you can't avoid is preventing you from attending the interview. You don't need to say what the commitment is, and if the person presses the issue, feel free to lie because it's really none of their business. Like, a funeral, a family member's surgery, etc. Say that you'd love to re-schedule the interview because you're very interested in the position. This is a common occurrence. Many people re-schedule interviews.
Just tell the employer that you have a schedule conflict at that time and will need to reschedule. Provide alternate times and/or days when you are free.
You do not have to volunteer an excuse for the schedule conflict. It is no one's business but yours. Just be polite but firm and request a reschedule.
If the employer plays hardball and refuses to reschedule, maybe it is better that you don't work for that particular employer. They may ask you to postpone the birth of your child for their own priorities;-)
