Those who oppose immigration reform do not have a rational reason to oppose it. This is a great example why we need reform.
FYI to the American IT people on the streets, you need to be willing to move to get a job. I know IT people who graduated from the same school, but some are not working because they refused to move away from their family. If you want a job, you got to be willing to move where they are. Don't whine when a job exists across the country that you could fill, but refuse to for some petty reason.
I just found out that H1B visa holders are treated like indentured servants. My work place has a lot of them and they are all afraid of losing their visa. They get sent back home when they do. SO they are willing to put up abuse. Work overtime with out pay, break our laws, and other abuses. What's worse is that they make our job here difficult. They support the company unconditionally, so if we complain about our work environment, we get very little support from them. THe company also uses them to leverage a far lower pay. Because of tehm, they froze our salary for a long time.
Plenty of unemployed and underemployed American Computer Scientists and IT experts in the US.
Microshaft and others of this ilk would rather have an indentured servant with an H1b visa then an American employee.
The immigration bill sucked by the way.

Check into the programmers guild before you give good ole Bill Gates a pat on the back, we have American programmers walking the streets (or trolling the Internet in this case) for work... He wants unlimited H1B visa's - Why don't we just put American jobs up for sale... to the lowest foreign bidder.
We have Engineers working in tech positions and programmers out of work and other positions that are covered under the H1B visa and he wants UNLIMITED.... do some research...

If you are "outsourcing" for something you CAN"T get here...fine. If you're outsourcing for "CHEAP"..then you're nothing more than a slave owner. Slave in the true sense of the word.

TRUE competition is when people are on level playing fields. This isn't a level playing field. True competition should bring the majority UP.not drag them DOWN. I mean isn't the objective to do better? Now it's gone beyond giving some a chance to do better.to taking advantage of people. Or keeping qualified people out in order to be "fair".
This deal with the Dr's in England....brings to mind what I've seen in our medical field. When I was young..I don't think there was a more financially beneficial or respected profession..then came the HMO's and people aren't trying anymore to be a Dr. We probably have more foreign Dr's than ever before. Why would you...right now.want to be one? They've decreased the income tremendously...you can't make a call anymore without a vote from people on a board who wouldn't know a tarsel from a meta-tarsel.but they are getting the debt and the total responsibility for it all. I can't ever remember a person getting a wrong leg cut off!! There was no file mix-up. Mistakes yes.but this is just bad...I worked for middle-easterner Dr's.they are good..but I've also been a patient who found stuff on x-rays they had to send to John Hopkins to verify. Me? A para professional can see things a supposid specialist can't? If I can do what an import can't with less of a degree..where is this better? Hey...paid full price with no discount!!! Even though I found the problem..not the Dr. He got paid for the "discovery". I didn't.
My mothers DR. a foreigner said.hey.she'll be around for another 7 years..made a TON of decisions based on his "professional opinion".she was dead within 2 wks.

Hey, this is a subject that I can discuss with some knowledge and my personal expierence.
I am 69 years young, and have over 30 years of expierence in the profession of METROLOGY, a.k.a., Measuring and Testing Equipment( M.& T.E,) Calibrations, ( a very technical portion of quality control). I have carried the level III ( the highest level obtainable) certifications for over 20 years. I am and have been certified in Nuclear, Petro-Chemical(refineries), Industrial, and Aero-Space. ( I retired in1998 as a Senior Quality Control Inspector on the Atlas Rockets (satellite launching rockets).
I can not return to work in my profession because, in the last 6 to 8 years, over 30 percent of the manufacturing jobs and their associated quality control inspection jobs, have been " out sourced". No, not the rocket jobs, however with the surplus of inspectors looking for work in all the different fields, there is a huge supply of inspectors, and a much smaller supply of inspection positions!!
I have some very diffenent opionions of the C.E.O.s, and etc. of the large companies, who send the work out side the USA for a smaller cost of production. BUT DO NOT- DO NOT PASS THE SAVINGS ON TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC / RETAIL BUYERS !!! NO, NO, the extra profits go to pay the C.E.O.'s several millions of dollars in bonuses each year !!
What the hell can a rational person do with several millions of dollars a year, except display huge ego's ?? I have never heard of any of these people using the extra millions to benefit any thing other than their huge egos !! Certainly not the down and out, the homeless, deseased, sick, infermed children, etc.

I believe both outsourcing and more immigration will help our economy. Let people and jobs find each other. Open economies and the free market make for better over-all prosperity. Artificial barriers at the border only help maintain inefficient workers and businesses.
