My husband is illegal and he actually went through the ROTC program in Mexico (it was required curriculum for all guys in his high school). I think he and many other illegals would make good soldiers, and it would give them a chance to show their loyalty to their new country. Of course, many would be reluctant to join if it meant the US was going to treat them differently than regular soldiers (i.e. use them to clear landmines or for target practice) and they would have to get paid enough to support their families. Also there would have to be a guarantee that they would not get deported when going in and registering for the Army, since it is a branch of government and most illegals like to stay far, far away from government buildings. Also there would have to be a guarantee that after the 2 years of honorable service, that they would get their citizenship as promised. But, I think it is a good idea and would definitely help to bolster to Army's recruitment goals which right now they are having a hard time meeting.

No... They have not earned the right to join our good military men & women. I'm sure that the people waiting in line to become legal citizens would love to one day join our military. Why reward the criminals instead of the people who wait to do it the right way. I want my son to come home from Iraq, so why would I wish for someone else to go in his place (illegal or not). I don't think this is a good idea at all. Always remember... It is a privilage to be a member of the U.S. military (only for American citizens)!
Yes, all 12 million can fight to earn their citizenship. First they all need to go to their nearest US Customs office and let the officer know they are illegal and would like to join the program.
