Can I get american citizenship if I have family in the US?

Answer:
Depends

First of all it has to be IMMEDIATE family. You can be sponsored by your husband, wife, mother, father, sister, brother, fiance or child. Your unlce, aunt, cousin, boyfriend, niece, nephiew, etc. can NOT sponsor you for citizenship.

IF you have a relative that can sponsor you, then they have to meet certian standards... for one thing they have to have the $$$ to support you as the U.S. has quite enough people on welfare already and we don't want people to come here just to sponge off the government. (In my experience the vast majority of immigrants are NOT here to do that, but the law is the law).

IF that works out then you have to meet certian standards. For one thing you can't have any serious criminal convictions, and they are getting tougher and tougher on what is and isn't a serious conviction all the time. If you are being sponsored by a spouce then you have to prove that it is a genuine marriage, not a marriage contracted simply to get citizenship.

If all that works out you have to pass a test that shows you can speak simple English and know about as much about US History as a 3rd grader does.

There are a few other requirements, but those are the biggies.

BTW Ywait is wrong... you can't join the U.S. Military unless you already have a green card and are a U.S. Permanent Resident. If you have a green card, becoming a citizen is not difficult. Therefore joining the Military is not a real path to citizenship; even though some Permanent Residents do join the military and become citizens.

Good luck!
If you apply to the USCIS, wait your turn and meet the qualifications.
depends on the relationship, if one of your parents or grandparents maybe so, if you are talking about a brother, sister, son, daughter, cousin, uncle, aunt, then no.
You will get a green card and after 5 years living in USA. you can apply for US citizenship, it's the law!

The following relatives of U.S. citizens are eligible to qualify for immigration in the immediate relative category.

Spouse or Minor Child of a U.S. Citizen An Immigrant Visa may only be processed for a child if he/she has no claim to U.S. citizenship.

Parent of a U.S. Citizen U.S. Citizen must be 21 or over

Step-parent or child of a U.S. Citizen Stepparent-stepchild relationship must occur before the child’s 18th birthday

Note: Grandparents, aunts, uncles, in-laws and cousins cannot sponsor a relative for immigration.

Executive Order 13269-
Expedited Naturalization of Aliens and Noncitizen Nationals Serving in An Active-Duty Status During the War on Terrorism
They have to sponsor you and you have to get a work visa first, then a residency card, then you have to be naturalized. It takes a long period of time.
No one can sponsor you for citizenship. Certain relatives can request immigration benefits for you; once you immigrate, get a green card, and live in the US for at least five years (three if the petitioner is a US citizen spouse), you can finally apply for citizenship.
