Should it be illegal to claim to be British when you are not?
Many people from the Indian Sub continent I think have been told by people like George Galloway that they are "British" on arrival here in the UK and often use expressions like "we British" and "I am British". They should try this in China and see how the Chinese react to it.
Answer:
Yes it should
I really think ou of all the countries in the world, you picked the one that will care the least if it is FULL of Brits saying 'we are Chinese'.
Bud bud ding ding
I'm half polish and half german. been in england for umm almost 2 years. I dont think people should say that they are british if they not. i mean thats diffrent if the went throught all the paper work and now are Brithish but i mean why would you ever come here and say that. and to be honest you can never change your nationality. as much as i I am brothish I will always be (polish-english) person!
whats the big deal.by an accident of birth im british but i wouldnt dream of telling anyone im british..i tell them im canadian.i feel much prouder.
Somebody oughta tell that to Madonna
Its not something I like to openly admit to being, despite being born and educated and worked in the UK for the first 40 years of my life. The UK is the laughing stock of Europe and I don;t often admit where I come from.
George Galloway should be shot and only poeple who want to admit to being british, who can prove provenance, should be allowed to say they are so if they chose...
It's a globalised world... and i'd say most people these days would be, in fact, dual citizens. I, myself, am an citizen of Ireland and Australia. I am, too, able to claim British citizenship but there isn't any reason for it. If you feel the need to give yourself the status of being British then that is your decision, but if your citizenship to the British state is questionable then perhaps discretion is advisable in communications with border authorities.
'British' is a rather grey area, there are degrees of British: eg.British Citizen; British Subject: British Overseas Subject and others. I know because I have been looking at my status as a British Subject which many of my fellow Irish share with the Indian sub-contact, see British Nationality act 1949 and 1981! I have lived here (England) most of my life but my next passport will be Irish because so many countries are getting very picky about British Subject passports and visa regulations, whereas an Irish passport doesn't seem to present problems! Who would have thaught it eh? An Irish passport more acceptable than one from the Great British Empire!
racists make me laugh.
first they say the immigrants are anti-british, then when they call themselves british they say they are not.
firstly, if you don't like Indians calling themselves british then the british empire shouldn't have declared rule over India.
As for Pakistan, that's a different matter. They wanted their own islamic state as to not live with the Hindus, Sikh's, Christians and now they they all trying to leave to live anywhere BUT islamic states!
You are British if you were born in Britain or you are of English, Scotish, or WElsh descent in my opinion. SO only a few Indians or blacks can call themselves British!
how hilarious this question is... so completely pointless ... but I'll take the 2 points anyway.
what, would you like a special police hotline so you can report anyone who claims to be British when you suspect they're not?
How about a special website where you can post their photo's and your complaints about them?
Yeah that would be good, then a special hotline to report people who disagree with the governments policies, then a special camp to keep them in, then maybe some gas chambers and ovens ...
oh wait a mo, hasn't that been done already?
Either get a life, or get some jackboots!
If you're a legal resident, why not? British nationality--not necessarily British descent.
I'm of British descent and I'm an American.
I am BRITISH and, I hate foreigner comming into the country and calling themselves british.
Absolutely agree- how would they react if we all emigrated en masse to India, Bangladesh or Pakistan and started carrying on about being South Asians?
Bliar doesn't want to admit we just import losers into Britain.
I cant think of anything worse than being "British"
Hold on a minute.........yes i can.........being a "Parissiene".
One and half million people from the Indian sub continent served in the British forces in WWII.Churchill told them there would always be a place for them in the mother country, maybe they got the wrong idea.
