Australian citizen working in Canada?

Hi all,

I am an Australian citizen and is currently in Canada. Will I be able to work in Canada without a work permit?

If not, will I be able to apply for one within the country?

You can't work without a permit of some sort because Canada is no longer part of Britain. You should be able to apply for something though, maybe even a citizenship, but I'm not sure how these work as I was born in Canada and never had to go through this myself, members of my family have though and found no problems getting citizenships and working here it seems.
