How can F-1 visa holder marry a US citizen?
Answer:
I had a similar situation. I was here on a J1 visa when I met and married my husband. It should not be a problem. Just get married and than file your application for perm. residency, but make sure that you are still legal when you get married and file (marrying alone is not sufficient you have to file all the paperwork). Once your application is complete, they will remove your visa and put a temporary stamp in your passport that gives you temporary residency until your case has been decided (usually your interview). How long that takes depends on were you file. If you want to work or travel out of the country during that time you need to get an extra permit for that too.
The only problem that I can think off is if the US Government paid any of your expenses in coming to the US (not any jobs etc in the US but anything paid to you or a agency representing you at the time you applied for the visa). But as far as I know this is usually not the case for student visas. If you are not sure you should be able to find this info on the original visa application, in my case I remember that there was a pink carbon copy of that stapled into my passport along with the visa. If any money was paid you need to leave the country for at least a year or pay the money back.

I takes a while to fill it out and get all of the right documentation, so I would recommend you look at it now and start getting ready.
I do not recommend that you see an Immigration lawyer unless there are any obvious problems (criminal record etc.) the process can be easily managed without paying a lawyer for it.
If you did not use your F-1 with the intent to immigrate, you are able to Ajdust Status to Permanent Resident based on your spouse relationship with a US citizen.
Between application and reciept of your Green Card, you won't be able to leave the US without additional travel permission, so the K-1 could be an option if you need to return to your home country.

Where do you originate from?
I am British and married a US citizen in 2003 in Texas. I am way past student age but if I can be of any help let me know.
I can tell you how we got by, but we do live in the UK now. I do know that marrying a US citizen does not give you any more rights to stay in the US and you do still have to file for immigration with the authorities (which is a very lengthy, complicated and expensive process) which is why we chose in the end to live in the UK. It is much easier for a US citizen married to a British citizen to come here.
