For Americans ?

why the main goverment building in America is named "THE WHITE HOUSE"
is just because is paint in white or there is something else going on in there??/

Answer:
well chihuahua warrior...it's because the white house is actually pained white...try reading some books sometime...they do hide information in them...
Because it's painted white lol.
Nope. It was painted white and that is how it got its name.

.
It's just a big house that was painted white. Of course, so are most of the buildings in the Capital.

There was a great deal of debate about whether it should be called a 'presidential palace' or something like that, and a more pedestrian appellation with no reference to nobility was chosen.

Oh, and it's not the main government building. The three branches are supposed to be roughly co-equal, so the Capital Building and Supreme Court are just as 'main' as it is.
Good Grief. That is reaching allot isn't it?
What a total idiot.
No, don't tell me you are a Mexican and trying to play the race card.?! OMG
Yea, because it's white!
It is because it is painted white.
Yo Paco,

The US is only 231 years old, so how could it take 300 years to abolish slavery?

EDIT: Really? Coz my history books said 1492 ... and we weren't trying to abolish slavery until AFTER the American Revolution, which makes it less than 231 years.

And even if we DID go with your year of 1604, And the 13th Amendment in 1865 adds up to 261 years. (Did the original Pilgrims stop by Africa on their way to Plymouth Rock?)

Anyway, the truth is that from 1776 (when slavery was frowned upon) until 1865, less than 100 years to abolish slavery ... that's how long it took.

Damn, your second grade education is amiable .. but I think I'll stick with my Bachelor's degree, k?
well it is a white building. and as for the slavery thing... Yes we did abolish slavery later than many countries but still far earlier than many as well...In Africa slavery still exists in multiple countries.
how could it have taken them almost 300 years to abolish slavery when the USA is not even 300 years old are you refering to when they were colonies under britain if so it still wouldn't come to 300 years. and before that it didn't even come close to being the same country it is today and what about the other countries that utilized slaves for 300 years. you know countries in africa also did this practice too right? why do you feel you have to single out one country? you insecure?

i am aware that america was discovered in 1492 how ever you can't count that as part of the time line since in 1492 the country was founded in Spain's name! not the USA there was No USA then slavery existed then because of european countries you dolt! are you really trying to say the USA in 1865 is responsible for the actions of spain in 1492? What a schmuck
It is White and perhaps ,that is the reason. The one in Mexico,
is called Los Pinos, have you asked them why.
WHo cares why it's called the White House. Your implication that its a racist title is quite inappropriate. As far as America as a country taking 300 years to abolish slavery, you are combining the time that America was colonies of England the the Time we were a sovereign nation of The United States of America. Declaration of Independence 1776 and immancipation proclamation about 1865 or so.
You must be Mexican..
It was painted white as a result of scorch marks left by fighting the war of 1812 with the Brits when they tried to take the Colonies back and failed - due to no small part to the efforts of future President Andrew Jackson.

In Brazil Slavery wasn't legally ended nationwide until 1888.
good lord... next white rice, white potatoes, the white crayon, a white car, white appliances... the white stripes on the roads, white flowers..
It's painted white and always has been. Nothing going on with it, just paint. Would you like to paint it another color?
Because the house is white
