More money for the ILLEGALS!! Accident that really happened!?

A building reconstruction company base in ILL, had about 33 people working for it. In the fall of 2005 there was an accident. A worker fell from a scaffolding system. He fell approximately 20 feet and was not wearing a safety harness that is required in this trade. This is a Union work place, and all employs are paid very well. There was a Workers comp investigation and the Insurance company investigated. They found that the worker involved was not a citizen and was working here illegally. Al did not know this because it is a crime to see if he was an illegal. Well, the Insurance company would not stand behind there policy with Al because the employ was here illegally. The Hispanic worker hired an atty, took Al to court and was awarded just over 2.5 million dollars. He had to liquidate allot of equipment to pay this debt. He now has 3 employs to work with, to rebuild his business. Now, who should have paid the claim, Ins company, Government?? Government I believe, Illegals still here

It isn't a crime to see if someone is legally within this country. Where in the world did you get that from??

If someone gives a social security number that is stolen to a company to work - that company is NOTIFIED by the fed's that they have incorrectly put the number in or that the number given is stolen.

A simple online background check online show if a person has a lifelong history within this country and a citizen.

You ask "who should pay the claim". Answer - the company. They didn't do all that they could do to make sure that they were within the laws for employment. Sad part is that legal American workers lost their jobs because of the choices made by the one that owned the company and the illegal that wouldn't abide by federal immigration laws or safety guidelines for that matter. These two alone are totally responsible.

any time you are suing someone, go after the ones with the deepest pockets, i.e., the insurance company. They would have been the easiest.
By government, you mean the taxpayers. I.e. ME. What do I have to do with this? Why should I have to pay for your irresponsibility?

Let's see. You broke the law by
1) hiring an illegal and
2) breaking safety regulations
and you broke the terms of your insurance contract.

And I am somehow responsible for that?? No way. The courts and the government did the right thing in this case for once. The are usually far too free with the taxpayers' money.
Well, seeing that he hired the illegal aliens in the first place I can't feel too bad about the guy having a downsized company. He should be in jail.

More than likely, Al was paying the guy crap to increase his profit margin because he knew he was an illegal.
Al should not have hired an illegal it's not a crime to check an employee's social security # to ensure you have a legal worker. If Al continues to hire illegals he could be arrested for it!
Guy should have hired Americans or legal immigrants.
