What next for immigaration?

These people all say enforcement.
We’ve been down the “enforcement-only” path before. In fact, it’s the path we’ve been on for the past 20 years, and it has taken us to where we are today. During the past decade alone, as the nation’s immigration problems mounted, we tripled the number of agents on the border, quintupled their budget, toughened enforcement strategies, and built fences and other fortifications around urban entry points. It’s a profound understatement to say that this strategy has done little to yield any positive change.
Middle class? We have a middle class in this country still? OK. Here's my proposal: All the immigrants who are here illegally should be DEPORTED. How about that?

I think people need to calm down. The government is increasing funding towards enforcement. The higher frequency of raids in the news is a testament to this. Perhaps people will focus on another issue soon and then some good law can be passed for immigrants.
If they stay in limbo while we resolve the illegal inflow problem to protect our schools and services, that is a situation they put themselves into.
OUR problems from their continuing to come illegally and swamp our schools and close emergency rooms needs to be the priority for any reform. Other elements shouldn't be included until that is adequately addressed, unless compatible with that main purpose.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I can say from experience that much of the myths the bigots spread on here just those, myths.
By the way, this goes both ways. Glitterbabe, please do not call us gringos. I resent that term. I am a "gringo" who understands. And as for YAY! well he is pretty close to what the opponents of the bill really think like.
Well, to start with, if we enforced our laws, I dare say we wouldn't be deporting 20 million illegals because once the law enforcement got started, many of them would be self-deporting.
Also, I am in total agreement with what DAR said here.
And, why do you call us all "middle class bastards?" How do you know what "class" we are? I would say that we are probably a large variety of all the classes on here. I, myself, do not feel that the "middle class" is as large as you seem to think it is nowadays. Certainly, I know I am not in that class, myself. Perhaps you are, but don't decide that you know what "class" we all are. I, personally, do not have spare money to be supporting illegal immigrants as it is all I can do to support myself and my own family in our "below middle class" lifestyle.
What should be next is for those in power to start enforcing our current laws.
