Why is it when you talk to someone who only knows spanish and you talk to them they just look at u and smile?
Answer:
don't know
I feel so special. My first clone!
(Change your name back. I know who you are.)
Edit: ICE Agent, you have more than one account. You aren't fooling anyone.
No se.
smiling is an attempt to be nonthreatening and show that the person is amiable.
Yo no me se.
If you're a female, they like what they see.
.
I know, with that big *** grin, and then they just stand there until you walk away.
Sorry not me. Or the name on the question would change to mine.
Smile, kiss, embrace, try to find common language. It is so wonderful that world is so different.
They are being polite.
.
cuz dey dont know wat to say
Well they probably have no clue what you're saying, so they just politely smile. Or they just think it's funny for some reason.
*Kind of like us Americans do when someone says something and we have no idea what they're saying...we just nod and smile and act like we know what's going on.
..same difference. but I agree it's funny.
This is not the REAL antis...
I think this is ICE, and the fake psi...it is just too obvious.Might want to re-think the cloning strategy there.
I have never had this problem because I can communicate with Spanish-speakers.
What else do you expect them to do? At least they don't insult you.
You know, I have always wondered that myself. They just grin real big and nod at whatever you say.
you just said it.because he/she "ONLY KNOWS SPANISH" they don't want to be rude so they just smile...im not familiar with each culture in the world but i dont think any culture takes a smile as an insult..like a previous answerer mentioned...when we have no clue what another person is saying, or dont get a joke, we still smile and nod/agree or still laugh with everyone else even though we didnt get the joke!
FIY its not only the people who speak spanish who do this...people who dont speak english but speak another do the same!
Don't take it personal.
it's something from ancient times. our native ancestors were more peaceful, and amiable than the Europeans.
In European ancestry it's similar to English commoners during the industrial revolution, and slightly before.
the vast majority, or populous was supposed to be humble and obedient.
no one does this on purpose, it's part of the way your brought up.
kinda like some asian cultures the females are supposed to bow to you, and not look at you in the face.
I think it is because a smile is a universal gesture of kindness. If you're talking to someone and they don't understand you, they are being polite by smiling. I've actually talked to people who speak English but they talk in such a way that I can't understand them. Then, I politely smile and nod my head. I also look for other cues the talker gives to help me pretend to understand.
They're thinking of how they are going to spend the welfare check they received in the mail.
Though we all know you aren't the real "Antis" I still also agree with you. I think it's hilarious and just think, "you poor person, you look like an idiot. Why don't you just learn English then you won't look soo stupid," while I smile back at them, or roll my eyes and walk away.
well if you are speaking english then they are smiling cuz they dont want to be rude but they have no idea what you are talking about or my hubby is a mexican non us citizen the kind w/no documentation. and actually speaks english better than i do and i am born and raised in washington usa but people tend to speak to him as if he were both deff and dumb they YELL things like HOLA SIR THE ESPANOL FORMS ARE OVER THERE and point alot that would make me smile and laugh 2
Guilt... They're hoping you don't work for ICE & coming to deport them!
che no me rompas la bolas
haha
becouse they are trying to be polite
I recently had the opposite happen---some one in line kept talking Spanish to me. A lot! I think I just smiled and laughed softly a bit--he seemed to like it. Maybe I blushed. As I looked around- others around me seemed to smile over it .I don't think they knew what was being said either. I don't think he was being nasty-just playful.
What else could I do? It appeared he didn't understand English.
And yes it is funny either way.
